97 gt transmission and rear end questions
Ok i have a 97 gt and the wheel bearing went out. So i am doing new bearing seals pads and rotors. What gear oil do i need for the rear synthetic? I have a bottle of friction modifier. I am going to do roral purple if they have it . I am going to change the transmission fluid as well it is a manual. Is it a t5 I know i have a t5 in my 86 if so they take just ato do i need synthetic fluid right anything specific i should use in it?The car has 120,000 miles on it. The transmission has a ton of slop in it if i keep it next spring i am going to do a transmission swap is there anything i can do to quiet it down for now.

you have a t45 transmission. when i changed the oil in my tranny i just used the ones that checker recommended which was automatic tranny fluid and so far its doing great.
for the gear oil im not sure about ive never had to come to that point. on americanmuscle i know they offer the 75w90 in royal purple but i would call around to make sure. hope this helps sorry no one came sooner

ya those trannys take auto oil. since your car has some miles you might want to go with a thicker oil for the rear and the tranny, expecially if it feels sloppy. The royal purple is REALLY thin and you might burn it off easy. Royal Purple isnt a mod anyway.

For your rear end, I would recomend double checking what kind of rear end you have. I'm not sure the stock rear end needs friction modifier. When I swapped in my LSD I used Redline 90 weight. Great stuff. As for the transmission. Always go synthetic. You don't have to worry about its seals like you do when switching to synthetic in your engine. Use a full synthetic like Mobile1 or redline or royal purple. It does take automatic fluid.

If you use the royal purple gear oil for your rear end, you DO NOT need to add the friction modifier.

Well i got the rear end done had a hell of a time finding a dam puller for the bearings auto zone and oreallys didn't have a puller that would work napa don't rent them and i got one from advance auto. Then i lost my tool to run the calipers back in (probable loaned it out and never got it back) so i had to rent one too . They told me my rear brakes where sqealing because the coating that comes on the rotors when you get them new. They said you are supposed to leave it on there to break in the pads??? I always learned to clean everything. So i dont know who was right but i had them turned and got the best pars they sale. When they turned the rotors they where bought in july and they where already warped? I dont know i give up i mean i drive the wheels off of it from time to time little road tracking with a buddy in the country but not that much.
