planting the "cobra" IRS?
i have a 94 lincoln mark VIII im not sure how the diffrent the cobra rear ends are from what i have but i need to find a way to plant the power. i have a 3600 stall and 3.73's with a tightley rebuilt posi in it and a set of 28x11.50 mickey ET streets and it still spins them most of the way through first gear. tires were at about 19psi and i left at about 2500 rpm. it was on a un prepped "drag strip" named frontage road but i would have thought a 11.5" tire on a 4000lb car should be able to put my whole ~260-270 WHP down to the road. do they make any type of traction bars or anything for the IRS set ups?

Well, most somewhat serious drag racers swap out IRS systems for Solid-Axle, and our biggest Maximum Motorsports IRS Rear Grip package primarily consists of uca/lca bushings, swaybar bushings, and mounts to slightly change the pinion angle, but that's pretty much it. Same goes with BMR, pretty much. I'm not sure if it's just because of it being a new technology, but it's significantly easier to plant a solid axle given today's current aftermarket.

the first thing you need to do is get to a real track & see what if any problems you have then. when I used to run mk 7's there was a guy in new jersey that had some stuff for mk 8's as well. I think you'll find very little the same between the thunderbird/mk 8 set up & the 99-04 cobra. but as stated above anyone with a 99-04 cobra thats any kind of serious about drag racing is gonna swap in a straight axle 1st thing. dont think thats an option for you though, its easy on a cobra (bolt in) because their cars were designed for staight axles & ford just stuffed the irs in there on the same mounts. your car was a clean sheet of paper design starting with irs.

ya im not sure whats the same or different in the cobra stuff and the mark stuff. i just thought that maybe if there were any tricks for the cobra set up that they could be modified to fit the mark. i have thought about going to BMR as they are about 45 min from my house i know they make nice stuff my buddy thats building a 3rd gen f-body has a full BMR rear set up. the straight axle would be hard to do and would evolve a fuel cell witch i really dont want to get into. my car is set up with the gas tank going under the drive shaft so it would not work with a live axle unless it was welded solid to the car.
