1997 Cobra Motor knocking........

Alright I have a problem with the cobra, I started it up and left the drive way with it and the next thing I know its starts making a ticking noise when I push in the gas. Does anyone know what this could be? MY NAME IS LANCE AND I LIKE NUTS!!!

Hmmm, kinda small description. BUT, 32'v had a ticking noise comming from one of the heads. And you need a new head for the noise to go away. Not a really loud noise like youre saying, but youre motor could be going down the drain if its loud enough to head from inside the cabin. Sorry man.

Alright the motor is still making the sound but it does not do it until you have the rpm's go up, she hasn't lost any power at all, it isnt' really a loud loud knock but when you hit the gas is when it will start knockin, I took it out the other day and when I got out of 2nd it didn't do it anymore once I got on it alittle, so its making me think that its a broke lifter or a rocker might be loose.

does it do it going down the road or when the car is cold or just only when the rpms go up kinda sounds like a lifter or something.

I actually had a rocker arm come off in my GT. When it happened i lost all power. It sounded like i had a nasty exhaust leak, and a stumble at the same time. It sucked. I putted it back home ( Oh yeah, i pulled over and it sounded like i had something broken in the lower end ) I did a bunch of tests and then yanked my valve cover. found the roller rocker just laying there.

tick tick tick

I had a similar noise in the 01 cobra before the head gaskets were replaced. The heads had twenty five thousandths taken off and they were "freshened up" under warranty. After the 29 days w/o the car the tick and other issues were almost gone. Different plugs and all the issues went away. Can get to be an expensive tick if you let it go too long.

check your oil, if you are low on oil you will not have enough to keep pressure on the cam tensioners and the cam chains will slap the guides. i have had mine do that a couple of times. put a screw driver up to the timing cover and heard it right from there and not at the heads. So that could be a problem that can be fixed easily

[b]The car does it going down the road also, The motor started doing it not to long ago and then I changed the oil in it and the car still does it, but I have had problems with the oil cooler line leakin, but the other day we took it down the street and when you press in the clutch the car dies now and it's really hard to start it and the oil pressure isnt really worth a crap in it now.........

It really could be alot of things. Im not sure anyone on here could tell you deffinatly what it is. Just hard to pin point because its RPM related. I would say first things first make sure its full of oil. Like stated before and get that oil line fixed. Next have someone rev it and get a stethoscope ( im a tech i cant spell ) and listen to get a general idea where its comming from.

Took her into the shop today and found out that the oil pump has went out of the car! Wasn't getting any oil at all. Thanks for the thoughts.

Man, you are very luck that it is still running. Based on the length of time before you found out and the fact that no oil was pumping through those pistons, very lucky, glad it worked out for you.

One thing is for sure, I have seen Fords hold up with little to no oil to no end. Makes me glad to drive a Ford.
