Ponies getting a little jumpy...

Alright, I don't actually know if this is normal or not, but it makes me a little worried. It just started happening when it got cold, not when it was warm. Any input would be nice.

Alright, so when I start the car sometimes she'll start idling at around 700 rpms, and then drop down to 500 where she belongs. Then if I push the brake down, and slide it into say... reverse and leave the brake pressed, when it first hits into gear it'll idle up to like 1,100 for a second work it's way down, go up a tad bit and then level out to where it belongs.

...?

It's just your computer trying to compensate for your engine being cold. I wouldn't worry if I were you....

first of all you should NOT be idling at 500 that's low. i'm not even sure if your alternator can function at such a low rpm you should be up around 700-800. idle flucuations in cold weather or when engine is cold normal don't worry about it

Haha, okay I lied. Maybe it's closer to 700. I wasn't thinking. I knew that. I'm so hopeless sometimes.

Anyway, it's really more around 740 ish. I was trying to exagerrate the situation. I figured it was just a cold weather thing, just never had this stang running in cold weather so I wasn't sure.

Thanks guys!

you might want to put in a higher grade gasoline also if your seeing any detonation in the cold weather. ive had to start putting 93 in my 91 tune in the cold weather becuase it start getting some detonation with it. either that or run a can of lucas octane booster
