TR3650 rebuild

well guys... i tore into my first transmission today "tr-3650" and i was really surprised at how easy and straight forward it was... im waiting on a shift fork to come in.. it will be in monday so ill go back together with it... but i completely disassembled it "minus synchros and all" and it was only about 15 parts that came out of it... i mean... i wouldnt suggest a freshly started wrench turner to try to tear into one but its not really all that complicated.. as long as you are organized with the parts and stack them when they come out and have a halfway memory then you shouldnt have a problem completing it... just wanted to post up a learning experience of my own...

Yeah I just finished up my Manual Transmissions class, manuals are fairly simple. I just also finished up my Automatic Tranny class too. Automatics are the ones that kick your ass. They give me headaches

Well shit, i need to rebuild my tranny stronger before it breaks... There kits out there for it? Or at least doing a half ass job that would last on the street? Like upgraded input shaft? and syncros?

Would need a new clutch with a new input shaft im guessing?

There was a Ford TSB on the T3650 trans back in '01 or something. Appearantly there were some recalls on them due to shift-forks and such. New parts should be an upgrade from originals.

Well im on a budget lol. A t-56 is like 2k. (minus sweet2k in classifieds). Got other stuff that needs attention first. Like my leaking blower and car not running right :p

Ok. I got into the transmission and fixed the problem. But. Tryin to go back together with it is proving to be a hassle. Can anyone get me a detailed schematic of the back end of the center housing? Having some problems with the little keepers that go in between the shift fork shafts.

Is a rebuild kit the way to go when your synchros and forks are ruined?
2nd gear is notchy as F*** and sometimes bounces out and 3rd is getting the same way.

ill have mine to you in a couple days. need an address to send it to. J/k I need to replace my syncros and forks. Or like RyanGT said, time for a t56 swap.

why not make a nice detailed video on how to do it so some of us can try.

if i had another transmission out i would... there are really only a few parts you gotta keep an eye out for... when you get the 2 shafts out as long as you stack everything up like it came out you wont have a problem... there are 3 pill looking things and a bb that you really gotta watch for. those are what gave me trouble. in pulling it apart they all fell out and i had to find out where they went back. and if you have to replace a shift fork... the 2nd gear mounts backwards compared the the other 2 inside the housing... and the shafts dont stack in the way you would think... they goofy.. but it will only work one way. lol.

I know this is an old post, but I googled it... but where did you get your 3650 rebuild kit from? My 4th gear is shit and 2nd is starting to not like me anymore either.

I didn't get a rebuild kit.... I just took it apart and figure out what was wrong with it and bought a used shift fork.
