23mpg, 4.10s on the Highway NYC to NC....
just drove down to Wilmington, NC to see the family for Xmas. wooooweee its been a long year!! anyway just though I'd let the guys who are worried about screwing up their gas mileage with 4.10s know I got 23mpg on the highway driving around 75mph average....i took the same trip 2months ago with my car total stock with 3.27s and got 26....I got about a 500 rpm increase in 5th with 4.10s, but with the tune, and exhaust I got it compensates the rpm increase for damn good gas mileage I think....
also the passing power in 5th is awesome... 4.10s + N/A on the highway, and the street FTW if you ask me!!

yea, i was driving from wilmington to camp lejeune (an hour drive one way) and for a while i was gettin crappy gas mileage on stock gears, then i learned how to drive it and i found if i kept it under 2k rpm or at 1500 rpm kept my gas mileage good on my 00 gt. i had to let the mustang go, but when i get back, i'm getting another one and i gotta decide between 3.90's or 4.10's. either way, there both good gears, and by the way, i'll be getting an auto (don't joke on me too much k.lol.)

Re: 23mpg, 4.10s on the Highway NYC to NC....
my problem with 4.10s was speeds aove 75, b/c 75 is exactly 3k rpms for me, and i redline at 6k. i am in my powerband at cruise and get less than what you get, but my city milage has greatly increased, and if i keep it under 70 on the highway (also reduces potential speeding fines) i have no problem getting 22+ mpg

Re: 23mpg, 4.10s on the Highway NYC to NC....
I just got the same from Texas to Michigan, with 4.10's. Before i left i had read the article someone posted about crapy MPG, and was paying much attention to MPG this time. I even drove at no less then 80mph and gotmy 23mpg.

4.10s in an auto Mach 1 and just befor going to Bowling Green KY
from Indy I lost OD, made the trip anyway and cruising at 3500-4000 still managed 22 mpg. Granted you have to be real easy about how much and how quik you move the pedal to get that, but we did. |
