Bassani, Borla, magnaflow Catback?
02 GT Automatic
I am looking at Bassani T304 SS, Borla T304 SS, or Magnaflow T409 SS catback. What are the benefits of T304 SS over T409 SS? I thought all after market catbacks are 2.5 inch but I found that the Borla has 2.25 inch connection between the stringer and the mid pipe connection. I called them and they said their exhaust is designed to connect to the stock mid pipe. Are all catbacks this way? All manufactures say their catback connects to the stock mid pipe and all the mid pipe manufactures say their mid pipe connects to the stock catback. Does this mean that the magnaflow, UPR, or bassani x-pipes reduce to 2.25 inch at the catback connection and the bassani and magnaflow catbacks are both 2.25 inch at the mid pipe connection as well? I was looking at getting the Borlas at performancepeddlerMagnaflow Performance | Discount Performance Auto Parts | Performance Exhaust Systems | Flowmaster Performance Mufflers if you use discount code ebayrocks they are only $627 plus an additional 10% off if you post the link on a forum $554. Performancepeddler also has the best price I have found on Bassani mid length headers, X-pipe and catback with the ebayrocks discount code -10% for posting. I also called completeexhaust about the magnaflow forum special of $359 and they have the magnaflow cated X-pipe for $429 as well. I am not sure I want to go with the T409 SS vise the T304 SS. Is the extra $200 for the T304 Borla and Bassani really worth the difference? What are your recommendations? |

with bassani and Borla you are paying for the name. Very good quality. But magnaflow is very good quality as well. Now i know magnaflow is is 2.5in tubing and it will bolt up to the stock Midpipe just fine. Many people do it. And it goes for the other way around as well. An aftermarket midpipe will bolt right up to a Stock catback. Many people do that as well.
as for the 304 vs the 409. Even though they are both stainless steel the 304 has more chromium in it meaning it will not rust or oxidize. the 409 will rust eventually. so is it worth getting the 304 over the 409? well that up to you, do you mind rust? My midpipe is starting to rust a little bit and its only been on for half a year, but mine is a daily driver as well though.

called Magnaflow they are T409 with T304 tips. so they do not reduce to 2.25 inch like the Borla. Will i need ST header with the magnaflow x pipe?

well ok. You sound like you want to do headers. So id would suggest this. Just buy the catback you want now if you aren't ready to do your headers now. the type of headers you pick will determin what kind of midpipe you are going to need. If you want Long tubes then you are going to need a shorter midpipe. If you are going to go with short tube headers then you are going to need a longer midpipe. Now you are going to pay up the ass for magnaflow catted x pipe. Id would say go with a UPR X pipe or a VRS. UPR is a great company. But if you want magnaflow go for it. Im not sure if magnaflow makes the 2 different lenghts though for their midpipes. But to sum everything up. Dont buy your midpipe until you decide what length of headers you are going to go with, and then buy your headers and midpipe at the same time.
Oh and yes magnaflow is all 2.5in piping.

I was reading your other post MAC VS Borla. Other than cost what lead you to Borla. It looked like for awhile you you were looking at MAC or magnaflow.

I called Bassani and they said the mid length headers will fit on automatic with slight modification. The passenger side collector tabs that connect to the down pipe flange need to be turned 90 degrees so it does not contact the transmission. I am going to check out some local muffler shops to see if they can do that. JPC Racing out of Glen Bernie MD will do it but want $800 to do the install.
Anyone out there do this? |
