Lowering Springs

worth it? or not? and are they complicated to put on? I've put a lowering kit on an eclipse before, but my friend took the springs off, all I had to do was put the new springs and struts back on. Can I put on lowering coils with simple tools? or am I potentially creating a projectile with the tension in my springs (if any exists). we used some tool to keep the springs from shooting off or something, if I'm even making sense

I love mine...

Steeda Sport Comps...

They can be done with simple tools...

Do you know any local shops? Becuase it is alot easier if you ahve the press to use to compress and decompress the springs rather then doing it by hand...

any autozone or napa or pepboys etc. should have a loan-a-tool that you can borrow a spring compressor. for the front springs, put the compressor on the outside of the spring (the side facing the wheel) and undo the shock from the tower and have someone step on the a-arm gently adding pressure make sure the brake line doesn't bind and pry the old spring out, replace the boot on the new spring, and put a little grease on that little "hump" that the new spring fits over, step back on the a-arm and pop the new spring in and reattach the shock.
its been like 2 years since i did mine but thats pretty much how i remember doing it.

thats for the front, the rear is easy to figure out.

alright thanks, what do these do in the line of performance, other than help with handling? Do they help in straight line drag racing any?

not really i'm raising mine back up cuz i'm going to a 28in tire and it doesn't let the ass squat like it needs to,plus i'm going with a coilover set up

They actually hurt you in drag racing unless you go with a drag spring...They hurt you becuase they do not transfer the weight as well as the stockers...But the loss is far less then the gain...

haha, so its not necessary? I just didn't want to turn my stock springs into a high velocity rocket or something, I dunno how much tension they actually have lol

trust me it comes in really handy and makes it so much easier. but if you don't want to try it and see. i took me about 30 mins to do the rear, about 3 hours to do the front pass. side and about 15mins. to do the front driver side once i learned exactly what needed to be done. lol

oh btw IMO better safe than sorry, take a small spring outta something and squeeze it on the top and let it pop out then multiply that times 100.

i wouldn't wanna be in "the line of fire" on that deal.

you can borrow one at no cost, but they'll probably give you 2 one for each side of the spring but it is damn near impossible to get it on the inside due to space limitations. if you can get it on both sides its alot easier since it will compress the whole spring. but naturally the spring is gonna wanna bow out.so thats the side you put it on to kinda straighten it.

i think once you get in there an look you'll see what i'm talking about.

good luck and always use your head and be careful.

BAH don't listen to these crazy mofos

This is all you gotta do, and it'll save you a whole HELLUVA lot of trouble trying to fit those compressors on. For the fronts put the car on jackstands and take the wheel and caliper off, then take off the sway bar link. Next, support the a-arm with your jack and take off the 2 lower strut bolts, then the 3 uppers from under the hood and remove the strut. After that lower the a-arm all the way down (there will be little to no tension in the spring now) and take your trusty prybar out to pry out the spring. It won't fly off or anything as the lowering of the a-arm on these vehicles will completely relieve tension. The new ones will go in easier than the old ones were to take out, as they're both shorter and less rigid, so make sure you clock them right and raise it back up.

For the rears just support the diff cover, then take off the calipers, shocks, quad shocks (we have 4 in back, 2 are horizontal minishocks that prevent wheel hop and watch out, the bolts are welded to the rear end on one side) and lower her down completely. The rear end will completely take out the compression in the rears just like the a-arms in the front.

Granted you can't do it without compressors in most cars, but our mustangs are a beautiful thing in this area Also remember to watch the brake line to the caliper when you're putting the struts back in. On the rear on one side I had to completely take the strut out again because there was no clearance for the caliper to go back to it's normal position from where I had placed it high in the wheel well.

I also reccommend replacing the shocks, as you have to take them out anyways and you'll just tear up your stockers if you only replace the springs.

exactly how i did mine. i have lowered many new edge mustangs and it dosent take no time to lower it. hardest part is taking the wheels of and raising the car.
