widest tire on stock 17" wheel?

My car is a 2000 GT. What is the widest tire that will go on that rim for the back?

275 max, but some believe that it's not that safe to be running a tire that wide, but others seem to have no problems

bear in mind that a stock 17" wheel is 8" wide, not 9"...

I think a 275 is as large as you would want to go.

A 245 is generally the widest tire for an 8" wheel. That having been said, you could certainly run wider, especially if you have a higher profile. You will have some bulge and will not get the best out of a corner going 275, but many do just that.

What kind of driving would you be doing?

you CAN run a 315 on them... if you are going with a drag radial go with a 275 50 17 and that would do ya fine. but depending on what you like the 315 might look like the sex to you...

well... 8" wide is 8" wide... and i run 275s on my pro stars.. 275/50/15s... or a 26x10 or 10.5 slick... and they look good.. and 275 would look good on a 8" wheel in 17"
