Question

How fast can you be before you need a roll bar/cage for a vert at a drag strip?

I'm trying to find how fast you have to run in the 1/4 mile before you need a roll cage in a convertible. If anyone has any info on this it would be appreciated.

11 seconds is ringing a bell... but I'm not a 100% though.

Immediately, along with subframe connectors, to make up for that soggy noodle ford calls a passenger compartment.

But if you are just talking according to the rules. 11-12 seconds in the 1/4 sounds about right.

Me thinks the cage may be the cheaper route...nothing says "I'm a sexy bitch" more than a nicely built and padded roll cage.

ANd a cage will tighten up a convertible car alot more than subframe connectors alone.

So how fast do you think a car with full bolt-ons 3:73 gears and stage 2 cams will run? w/and w/o slicks?

Do you think it would be 13.49 or lower? if so I'm in need of a roll bar at least.

No the first one wont cut it, now will the second. The harness bar, the one that runs from side to side behind the front seats CANNOT be a bolt in. It must be welded. As said above Maximum Motorsports makes an NHRA acceptable roll bar. Plus, the site you linked to wants a hell of a lot of money for their roll bars.

Are you auto or manual? I myself am at that kind of time for the moment with my mods and stock rear. It also depends on your elevation.

It also depends if the roll bar is a 4, 6, or an 8 point.

I had a custom 8 point roll bar made with swing out doors that ties into my subframe connectors

Your best bet is to call your local tracks to see what they say. We have 4 tracks with it 100 miles and their rules vary slightly. I don't suggest going with the minimum, you might as well install a 8 point now and save doing more down the road if you go faster. I suggest also if you have the extra money have it done in moly, the cost is more but the weight is 1/3 less than mild steel.

I have a 5 speed. I might just leave it the way it is and keep it off the track. I'm trying to get my body kit installed before i come home from japan, and so far the cheapest I've gotten quoted for that is $2500. Unless i end up selling my 81 coupe to fund this.
