Cylinder Heads

What is the benefit of stage I or stage II cylinder heads alone? I have 1000 to spend at the moment, and I have so many things I can do...I want to do what has the best benefit though. I can spend all of it on some heads, but thats all, is that worth it? Or should I go with something else?

i would say get a tuner and gears if you have not done that already. and also i would wait till you can do heads and cams at the same time since you will already be in that area of the engine. romeos have 11 bolts valve covers and windsor 13....i think i got that the right way around.other than that i dont believe there is any major differences

Cylinder heads, displacement, and camshaft or the three main things where you make your power when looking at a longblock. You can make major power through all three, especially cylinder heads. For any amount of displacement, you have to get a set of heads that will flow enough air to make power and you have to get a camshaft that will work the heads correctly to make the power you are looking for. You ca drastically change your power band with a camshaft. You can drastically increase your power with more displacement but you must get a set of heads to flow the amount air that it needs.

That's a basic run through of why heads are important. Your intake manifold is also very important since it is what flows air to your heads. Like I said, very basic. I can get a lot more technical.

If you have nothing else done i wouldn't go with heads, i would get cams before you get heads. Plus you are going to have to pay for labo somewhere for someone to install them. The difference in the windsor and romeo of course the main one is one was made in windsor and the other was made in romeo plant. the windsor motors were in the 99-mid 01 if i am not mistaken and mid 01 and up are romeo. The windsor has a different water pump pulley, different valve covers, and also contrary to popular belief have a 8 bolt crank instead of a 6 bolt crank on the romeo. You have an 03 so you have a romeo motor. i say go ahead and get you some 4.10 gears and getting them installed is going to take about half your money then go get you a tuner and get the car tuned at a dyno shop to get that little bit extra out of it. and if you have some money left over if you don't have one already get a mac mid-pipe like a off-road h-pipe or a mac pro-chamber. it will help the trottle response quite a bit

I have some mods done to mine now! I have a tuner that should be in tomorrow. I noticed the biggest differences with the 3.73 gears and the mac U/D pullies. That was even bigger than the 75mm T.body and C&L plenum.p.s. mine had exhaust when I bought it so dont know the difference in feel vs. stock.. Hope this helps.

Make sure your port sizes match from your t/b to your plenum to your intake. you want to make sure they are as close as possible to matching but not larger to get the most out of your heads. And I would wait to buy your heads and cams as a set rather than buying heads now and waiting to get cams later. And do not get a tune yet if you are planning to get heads and cams in the near future.
