Pulling the motor, need some advice.

I searched through a bunch of old threads but Im still not sure the best route for me. My motor blew and Im replacing the motor. Im doin this in my driveway and dont need to remove the tranny for anythin. How hard is it to get to the bolts mounting the tranny to the engine? Is it easier to just remove the engine and tranny together or should I unbolt it and just pull the engine?

It will come out just fine with the tranny on. All of the swaps weve done, we have the tranny on for install and pulling.

If you have headers, when the motor is up, drop the K to allow more room.

Definitely, leave the engine/tranny together and pull/install as a unit. Much easier (Just did it by myself with a good engine hoist and load leveler).

no way in hell you going to catch me pulling the both together without the front end being apart. i drop the k, then lower the motor/trans together lo enought to get headers and trans off. then just pluck it strait out the top.

taking out the tranny or unbolting it first is how i would do it... it requires drppin the K member to get both out with the angles at least did on mine. this time since i have no tranny in it, it should just pull straight out the top!

Dont need to drop the K or take off the trans. just get a buddy to help and take em out together - it isnt hard.

Where do you attach the load lever?

I have stock headers so Im gonna try and pull it it all out together, sounds like itll make it easier. Will the tranny leak when the drive shaft is removed?

When you drain it, just get a clean bucket and put the fluid in there, then funnel it into a jug to put back in at the end of the job...

once the drive shaft is pulled, it will leak. that is why i drop the k, i lower the trans at the same time and leave the d/s in. get them to the ground, unbolt the trans and k when you lower them together, and lift the motor strait out.

Never thought of doing it that way. That would make doing a clutch a 3 hour ground job... I may just do this next time.

I'm guessing you resurface your own flywheel right or do you have someone take it somewhere when you have an appointment scheduled?

Is the method above (dropping K member and letting entire drivetrain sag) the way you do a clutch? When I did mine, I just took the tranny out.
