Gears Auto vs manual & hp loss auto vs manual

If the 4R70W as a 3rd gear ratio of 1 to 1 would I be fine at the track with the 3.73's I have now. Will I run out of gear, or be geared to high now?

How much hp will I lose on the dyno compared to the standard. I have dynoed twice on two different dynos one was 572 and the other was 598. The one I go to regularly seems to read lower than others I have been on.

I know I have had a lot of auto tranny questions lately but I'm in the research and development stage of my swap lol. Prepared to be bored with newb question over the next 3 months or so.

the better the parts you install in the auto set up, the less parasitic loss you will have. a good converter, manual valve body, and if you were to do clutches etc, loss will be the same as a manual trans. if you are passing thru the traps now in 4th, you will be doing the same in 3rd as the manual. i personally would go a 4.10 with an auto, the auto can fully utilize the steeper gear.

I'm right at the end of my power band with the 3:73's. I have hit the rev limiter right after the traps because I held it a little long. Do you still think I could take advantage of the 4:10's?

the transistion time for shifting in a manual, gear ratio between the manual and auto, power curve, etc will allow the auto to fully utilize the steep gearing. the first 300ft will be a huge difference just going to the auto. the steep gearing goes thru so fast in a maual car, an auto can (usually) plant the power a lot better and deliver the full use of the gearing/torque. not to mention the auto will absorb shock a lot better than slamming the gears in a manual.

then you amy want to go to a 3.55. going into 4th isnt what hurt a trans, its when you run fast enough that the converter tries to lock up. when the converter tries to lock up at those speeds, is when damage will occur.

I will have the od and the lockup on toggle switches, but I plan engaging it after shifting to 3rd.
