what possible weight reduction?

ok guys... im gonna make my gt a "race car" lol... its gonna be street drivin and its still gonna be slow but im taking as much weight as possible out of it.. dont care about looks or comfort "besides heating and ac".... so far i have my battery relocation to the trunk even though i know its not actuall weight reduction... other than that i have the trunk carpet out, trunk panels, all interior panels minus door and center, rear seat, carpet, and i will be getting race seats soon, front sway bar... what else can i strip out of it? bumper suports? that about all?

well. i mean.. im still gonna drive it whenever i want to... it will be completely streetable... just gutted.. and i forgot that the tire and jack were out before i got it.. ha... i mean.. besides carbon fiber hood and trunk i dont know what else there could be.. i already run 15" pro stars.. that saved a lot... but yes... this car is strictly for 1/4 mile.. i dont care how it handles around curves or anything.. im not a speed demon when i drive so i dont mind poking around a little more just to get some weight out of the car... but i will be buying another vehicle soon so im not down.. like i am right now because i broke the rear end last weekend and im having to hitch rides till i get it back together. lol

buy a odyssey battery, weights about 14 lbs, buy a tubular k-member, put a lightweight spool in the rear, remove front and rear bumper supports, strange race brakes. but the carpet ain't gonna make a difference, leave it in, you don't need to remove any panels at all. total panels and carpet maybe will save you 10lbs if you are lucky which will not make a difference what so ever. Also you can do a aluminum driveshaft.

Tim... amazingly enought... the carpet weighs over 30 pounds with the sound deadinging and padding... when i took my cars interior all out (everything) but dash, and stock powered drivers seat... I lost over 150 pounds. head liner is still in the car too... but gutting it like mine is not very fun to drive on the street, but i got mine below 2990 pounds with 5 gallons of fuel a bottle of nitrous in it and STOCK k member... i am hoping for 2850 race ready without me this next season...

its not that bad to drive on streets, just a little noisy. the car reacts totally different as well, steering seems touchy after the car gets gutted.

i never put the panels back in from where i painted them... so its not gonna cause me any problems to have it out. and i been ridin like that since thanksgiving so im used to it.. and yes the carpet and all panels do weigh about 30-35 lbs... and just like some of you said the back seat doesnt weigh much. my back seat, foam panel and trunk carpet weighed 52lbs..... i know im gonna buy a k member soon.. thinkin about usin my tax money to build botom end and throw a bigger shot on it.. lol. i think ima pull the bumper supports out next though... and like i said.. i dont care how it handles.. i want it to hook and get to the other end faster than before... lol... and a lot of weight reduction is free.. my ole lady loves the racing scene so she doesnt care at all about the car being gutted, she understands the beauty of it... ha

Agreed.... and the extra creaks and cracks.... well maybe that was from me twisting the frame with out subframes on it launching at 4500 on nitrous

yeah.. i heard a very loud pop last weekend at the track... it was the torque bitch slapping my 31 spline differential in its mouth and knocking all the teeth loose!!! ha

well i will agree that the carpet alnone would be like 5 punds... but too much work to pull the sound deading off it for a car that goes on a trailer and back off of one... haha

just me but taking all that off so you can have a car that you think is a race car that you will daily drive on the street really doesn't have point. I say enjoy the comforts, i wish i did. Squeeking and cracking and popping and all that gets annoying after a while.

I weighed all the shit I pulled out of my car and it weighed about 150-160lbs. Back seat and brackets, carpet and padding from trunk and whatnot, spare and jack, and about 20lbs of bolts and misc junk I had in the car. I was surprised it all added up to be that much, seemed like it would all add up to maybe 50lbs.

im not trying to make it a race trailer queen... it will be trailered to the track from now on. i learned my lesson from that last weekend... the reason i said race car is because people call gutted cars race cars... i drove my car without any of the creature comforts like carpet and all and i didnt really have a problem with it.. yeah its not pretty but i dont care about pretty... what all smog stuff is there to pull out? im not takin my ac off.. lol. i still want that..
