From what I've read you would want both an intercooler and cams. If you can only do one or the other right now, I would pick the intercooler first.

you don't want a non intercooled car with cams, you will fuck that shit up. 400 is pushing it on a non intercooled setup

I made 440 with a FMIC and a stock long block and exhaust manifolds w/ 10lbs.. If you're looking for solid safe number then go with the A/C or even a FMIC if you want to go cheaper.

Cool the charge before anything else.

those ebay intercoolers are cheap , probably dont fit the best but as long as you can fab them up and they dont leak I am sure they are alot better than nothing at all

because that hot air with that much power is a recipe for detonation.. it just puts a ton of stress on your engine with all that hot air and power.

heres a picture of that same intercooler on my buddies 03 WRX .. has no problem what so ever .. car makes 409HP to the wheels at 33psi with a 2.3 stroker and the car has run a 11.4@120 no problems .. of course, the intercooler is 2 big for the stock bumper, but all he cares about is function lol

water/air coolers are more prone to heat soak in traffic , air/air if its large enough will not heat soak in traffic as bad and will recoup after getting hot after getting in clean air for about 1-2 minutes of driving at about 55 mph ......water/air will take up to 10 minutes to cool back down after being in heavier traffic

I am not a fan of after coolers either, for your particular I would run air to air. When I did the turbo on my old 96 I made all the hot and cold piping and used V bands. I'll see if i can find the link for the company I used to purchase a the prebent tubing for the cold side.

I run the Vortech with an Air to Water cooler..the extra power gained is definitely worth it.
Use and aftercooler then do the cams later....IMO
