Limits of the 4.6L 24 valve motor

You know you talk to the wrong people and its easy to get some wrong ideas...In a nutshell how easy is it to blow up a GT engine with 6 digit mileage?

You have a 2005 model with over 100,000 miles already?

I think he is just asking for future refrence
It all depends on how you take car of the car. If you take care of it and dont hot rod it it will last well into the 200,000. Their actually is guy with a Saab that took execlent care of his car and got a million miles out of it. Could have gone more but he gave it to a musuem.

He's not kidding either. I have a cobra, which now has a cracked block that hit almost 200,000 but it was treated like CRAP by the previous owners, I mean... they thought it was a good idea to bring it to 7,000 RPM's to see if they'd throw a belt. I'm not kidding.

If you treat it right, you'll go past 200,000 and then some.

My GT's got ... 120+ and it's still flawless.

I'm pretty sure that he is talking about the new 3v motor?? Possibly, he wants to test the limits of a high mileage car??

I think he didn't know which motor he had, he was unsure if it was a 2 or a 4. haha overlooked a 3?

I'm guessing he saw the 2v and the 4v's and wasn't sure which he had, so he put a 24 to make it look like a type so either way he was right? But... not?

Well! Anyway.

High Mileage... psssht, a pony will kick well well up there if you treat her right.

24 valve...3 valves per engine cyllinder isnt that what the 1999-2004 V8s are made up of? Anyway its a simple stock 260hp anniversary edition gt motor with 106,000 on it. On average I take it up to 5500 in second gear when I drop the hammer on the highway, thats my power gear but I have a friend with a GTO that blew his motor at 150mph. Its not really a specific question it was more for people who have blown Ford motors on these things before. The Cobras' you would think would last longer but all of the motors are hand-assembled, I know a few people with old 5.0 Cobras' who've blown them with less abuse than I give mine.

No that is a 16V 4.6...

1996-2004 GT = 4.6 SOHC (2 valves per cylinder)
2005+ GT = 4.6 SOHC (3 valves per cylinder)

400rwhp on the stock motor is the limit...
