mishimoto radiator info
For lefty and those of you that were interested in it I dropped the mishimoto radiator in today. It fits but definetly not like an oem would but still only took about an hour or so to put in including filling mixing the antifreeze to where I wanted it and filling the trans. Ill post pics tomorrow but w/o making this a book heres a few things about putting this thing in.
Preparing to go in 1. You have to remove the plastic clip holding the lines together on the front of the traction control module 2. You have to cut/modify the rubber mounts both upper and lower. 3. You have to cut a chunk off of the fan assembly 4. Transmission lines dont seal real well so teflon isnt a bad idea Putting it in. 1. You cannot put the fan on the radiator and then drop it in like the factory one 2. You must remove the battery and battery tray to allow for room for the fan to go in as you have to go around and under the upper hose inlet/outlet, removing the drain cock on the radiator also makes it easier to put in 3. The upper trans line runs BETWEEN the fan assmebly and radiator not behind/outside it like oem Im sure someone will ask why all this is needed so; the radiator is much thicker than oem. Because of this the fan assembly has a TIGHT fit between the traction control lines and the radiator removing the clip allows the lines to move out of the way some. Cutting the rubber mounts is pretty straight foward the dowels dont drop right in like the oem for whatever reason they made them fit RIGHT up against the metal circle the mount sits in. As for the fan assembly modifying its the same deal, the radiator is thicker so it pushes the fan closer to the engine bc of this theres a spot that hits the powersteering line and there is no place for the powersteering line to be moved so there you have it and once again same thing with the upper transmission line it cannot strech around the fan assembly and then thread into the radiator its about 1/2" too short so it must go between the fan assembly and radiator meaning you have to put the radiator in, connect the trans lines, then drop the fan in. The trans lines didnt seal too well I had them fairly tight (w/o trying to rip out the aluminum threads) and they both leaked pretty bad. After some teflon and going a bit tighter they worked fine. As some of you may know I do this crap for a living, when the body business was good I was doing atleast 5-6 radiators a week in various vehicles and id have to say this one tops it for being the most pain in the ass as far as things fitting goes, you couldnt just drop it in it was like putting together a puzzle. As I said ill post pics tomorrow and I did take pics of how the mounts had to be cut, fan assembly had to be cut, etc. As far as performance goes ill let you guys know tomorrow as well since I didnt drive it tonight. Seems like these things are real hit/miss. Some people have them and love them others have them and have nothing but trouble. I guess ill find out one way or the other lol. Quality wise it seems quite nice but it fits like any other aftermarket part does...shitty.

i talked to my buddy today he had it in his 08 Si. he said that hes not sure how much colder it helped the car run because he has those digital gauges, but he said like 2 or 3 "clicks" on his temp gauge, he told me that he took his out because it would leak but he said from the hoses not the rad itself

Thats about how much it helped for me, right around 2 little marks cooler than what it was running with the factory one. Im also somewhat sure I could have wigged the power steering line over a bit after looking at it today with some better light but in the end it was much easier and faster to wack a piece of the fan assembly off w/ a cutoff wheel & 90* die grinder w/ a 60grit roll loc to smooth things out
