262 Comp Cams

Im getting a set of cams installed this weekend. I have two questions. With a stock h-pipe with 4 cats will I be able to pass emissions with the 262 Comp Cams? Also the guy that is giving me the cams is also giving me a SCT tuner that is detuned. Can I use this to completely tune my car to idle correctly and gain maximum hp or do I still need a dyno tune. Thanks

hand held tuners are good but you wont get as much out of your car as you would with a dyno tune

I think Invictus changed his cams without even pulling the timing cover. I didn't believe it was possible until I tore into my shit the other day and realized that it could be done if a person was really careful.
But I think he was about ready to take a .38 to his own head at one point.

Search for this thread....

installin cams, how do i get these valve covers off!?

I was wrong, he did end up pulling the timing chain cover. He had some trouble getting the driver's side cam out. I will tell you I almost had the exact same problem. When it wouldn't come out for me, I put a pair of chain style vise grips around it and gave it a spin. It pulled right out after that.
The 4.6 looks intimidating from the top of the motor, but there really isn't shit to it once you get all of the wires and rails out of the way. However, there are a few bolts on there that will make you want to eat your own arm off.

How did your car run without a tune? I wont be able to adjust anything for atleast a month. Anyone can chime in here. I just need it to get to and from school.

yeah i ended up putting a litte rubber peice between the screw driver and the cam so as not to scratch it.. and just pryed them right out. nothings holding them in, they're just wedged in there pretty tight... the new comp cams have a nice little flattend area right in the center and make it much eaiser to get a pair of vice grips or a crescent wrench around it and turn it to line up the key to the cam gear.

the car runs fine, i've put about 50 miles on the car so far without a single problem and NO tune yet. i didnt want to book a date to early and not be able to make it... unfortunately i wont be on the dyno until Jan 13-14 but yeah it runs fine and cranks with no problem at all. of course im babying it though so as to not take any chances.. and yeah i did have to end up taking everthing off because i dropped the cam bolt washer down into the timing cover =X hehe.. but yep all is well. i'm glad i did it.. saved a nice little 1k labor fee!

Just out of curiosity how much power can I expect from the same type cams and maybe a set of stage 2 heads I don’t hear much about the gains from this upgrade

Im quite interested in the same thing as well, I have a stock car and the cams certainly sound great but what are the average power gains on a mod like this? and does this help other mods too such as in the case of a tuner?

you will see 15-25 at the wheels and even more torque. a tuner will maximize every mod. If you can do the labor yourself, I got my cams cheaper that I got my headers and midpipe for. the stage 1s will make a LOT of torque and that's what counts on the track!
