spec stge 1 carnage *pics*...

i finally dropped the tranny again and pulled the crappy spec 1 clutch out. I bought a RAM to replace it. I dont know what went wrong with the spec. everything was done right. all bolts torqued to specs. it shook and chattered from day one and got progressively(sp) worse. when i pulled it there was hot spots on the pressure plate and flywheel and the clutch disc was glazed. what do you guys think happened. my fault or faulty clutch?

what do you think of the pivot ball on my transmission and the sleeve on the input shaft? does it look ok?

theres little grooves on the top of the sleeve, but they are very fine and i can barely feel them with my nail. thanks for any input.

i have a SPEC stage III in my mustang and its a 6 puck kevlar clutch, and personally i cant stand it! tough to drive on the road daily, chutters pretty bad when downshifting at low rpm's and letting out sometimes, and is just an overall PITA. i want to go back to a full disc clutch asap.

im glad im not the only one who is having issues with SPEC clutches.

i bought a steeda quadrant, adjustable cable and firewall adjuster at the same time as the spec 1. i now know that you dont need the adjustable cable. its junk IMO. stock cable is better. i threw mine out unfortunately. lol yeah im so happy to finally rid my car of the evil spec. hahah

glazing and hot spots are normal for most. doc's stage 2 had about 45 miles on it with same thing. my stage 3 beat the shit out my flywheel. the sleeve on the input will be fine, jus tbe sure to put some grease on the next one.

you guys talk crap or hear horror stories with the sprc clutches. i loved my stage 3, no chattering, pedal effort was perfect, no issues at all. most the time guys dont know how to break them in right, others cry because they got a perfromance clutch but it dont have stock pedal feel. ram and centerforces clutches are hard onthe drivtrain as well, they no different than something like a spec stage 3 (for example). you think that stage one is hard on flywheel or pressure plate, have fun with the centerforce or ram. all heavy hitting clutches will do all the same thing.

yeah thats all well n good. i dont mind pedal feel or even chatter, but whenever i let it out in first or downshifted it would vibrate like crazy. it wasnt even remotely smooth. the pedal feel was good i liked it. i just couldnt drive it like that. traffic situations were horrible. i probably didnt break it in right, but now i know how and this clutch should be better.you learn from your mistakes. plus there are a lot of people with the stage one who have problems not just me. i hear good things about the 2-3+. i get where your coming from though sweet. thanks for your input.

Centerforce or RAM FTW!!!

I've heard horror stories of SPEC clutches shattering flywheels. I've been told that it's the way the clutch applies pressure is completely different than CF or RAM. I had a CF DFX and wouldn't trade it for anything, but another DFX or RAM.

I have the RAM stock replacement. No extra stress on the drivetrain here....

The stage 2 and up I've heard were amazing clutches, but the stage 1 is jsut a POS in my opinion.

DFX is a really nice clutch. I never had the clutch quadrant and it will grab really low on the pedal which is sooo nice.
