Headers

What are the differances in power gains between longtube and mid-length header? And how do you know if a specific pair of headers is going to work with the mid-pipe that you have?

Forget all the math and money saving techniques. Buy the long tubes, you do not want to mess with shorty, mid-length, or tuned shorty headers. They are a pain in the ass to get bolted up to your exhaust system. Take it from somebody who knows.
I thought I was saving money by getting the tuned shorty headers, and I have regretted that decision every since.

Go ahead and go for the longtubes...You will be alot happier then with the shorties or mid-lengths...

I installed Mac longtube headers with a pro chamber in my 99. The long tube will give you more torque across your rpms. Mac headers and chamber also come with o2 fittings I got no check engine lights bolts up like stock.

do long tubes require moving the motor up or down or is it just the shorties that are the bitch and a half to do?

For my DOHC header install, I dropped the k member, suspended the engine from above, pulled out the motor mounts and it went together pretty well. The EGR pipe was a PITA but then I have an intake spacer which adds some height to it. On a 2V I would think it would be similar but I have not done one. It took a Saturday afternoon and then finished up Sunday afternoon. Probably around 7-8 hours but we took our time and did alot of BS'ing. I wouldn't want to pay a speed shop to do the install.
