Which alternator to get?

My mechanic called, said i could save around $20 (which i could use towards something else on my car. by getting the $270 (including installation) remanuafactured alternator, or i could get a new motorcraft alternator (which is reccomended by ford) for around $320-$340 (including installation)

And i am actually saving around $50 but i have to keep a minimum of $25 in my account to keep it alive so i don't get charged so i can only use $20
what should i do? I'm leaning towards Remanufactured but i need advice from people who know more. He said he'd go w/ motorcraft, but he might be trying to make more money.

I could really use that extra $20, even though $20 isn't alot.

Id get the one thats a bit more expensive especially if its oem (i think you said it was), im still running the same motorcraft alternator that was in mine the day it rolled off the lot 8 years later so its worth the little extra in my opinion, if you really think about it what is $20 gonna buy you for your car? A goofy short antenna, 10 gallons of gas, a quart of oil and a hp2010 filter? Not a whole lot. If you really wanted to save some money install the thing yourself. its nothing more than a few bolts,a plug,a nut, and the belt.

With Alternators, get MOTORCRAFT to be safe. There have been issues with aftermarket alternators not charging as stated not to mention not lasting longer than a year.

These cars have to be one of the easiest around to change the alternator on, takes 10-15 min at the most

It wasn't my alternator. Its a wire in my stereo that isn't grounded correctly that's making a wierd whining sound through the alternator. I didn't get the new alternator, b/c i'm getting this problem fixed first. Then i'm going for the new alternator. Firestone Complete auto is awesome. They offered me the motorcraft alternator for the price of the remanufactured one after the remanufactured one wouldn't fit and i didn't have money for the motor craft.

Maybe consider installing the alternator yourself when you get the new one. Itll save you quite a bit of money and doesnt take much time.

install it yourself.

wanna a quick go by?

1. loosen the tensioner pulley so the belt will fall off.
2. Undo the electrical connection.
3. unbolt the alternator ( 2 bolts)
4 Go in 321 order now.
