Comp cam - hi tech stage 2?
K. So im looking to order my cams this weekend. And i hear every one boast about the Hi-tech stage II cams. I'd love to get me a pair of these.. the question is, are the comp stage 2 cams from american muscle the same? or same quality?

Comp Cams grinds Hi-techs for them. Hi-tech just sends comp the specs.
EDIT: Case and point, here are my Hi-tech cams waiting to go in.

They arent the same cam (as far as specs go) but as far as quality goes they will be the same considering the hitechs are technically comps that are ground to spec for hitech. When it comes to which ones to get just about everyone here is going to jump on the hitech band wagon but in my opinion go with what fits your needs best.

Yes, also theres a guy you can pm on here for a discount/coupon code when ordering from them.
Rage is right about the prices, not to put them down as theyre a great company but some products are slightly over priced, even if you do consider the free shipping. A good example is their mafs. They want like $270 for the sct ba3000 and ba5000 which can be easily found for $230 or less. Last edited by ajm; February 15th, 2009 at 04:18 PM. |

With the 270 grind can the stockies handle it tho? or would something end up breaking?

I believe comp recommends using some aftermarket/upgraded springs. One way or the other its not a bad choice if you have the extra money to spend, you could even pick up some patriots for $144 for all 16 if you were on a budget, or the patriot valve spring kit which comes with titanium retainers, locks, springs, and valve stem seals for $250 (i think its 250). Btw I think americanmuscle is out of stock on the 270's, seems like theyre out of stock on a bunch of stuff all of the sudden?
I found this somewhere for specs on them "Valve springs recommended, will work with stock computer, programmer required. Noticeable idle. Xtreme Energy™ For 1999-up Performance Improvement Heads." Last edited by ajm; February 15th, 2009 at 04:02 PM. |

Yea, they are out of the stage 2 right now. which is okay, because the track here wont be opened up until april 22. so that gives me a little bit of time before i need them installed and broke in... in my order im hoping to get the pypes off road x pipe (non catted) and the spec stage one.

Its not too bad. Everyone just makes stuff out to be way worse than it is. A perfect example is how everyone says how hard it is to do long tubes, it takes forever etc. bakerfx4 did his long tubes and clutch in about an 8 hour day.

But yeah.... you might get some "OMG, dont attempt it" but prolly not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. ajm knows alot on installing cams and he is on here everyday after 5 or so and on the weekends so im sure he can answer anything you need to know about the cam install. Do it!!!And what happened lately for EVERYONE to be all over the hi tech stage 2 cams? Every other thread is about these cams!

^ Hes right, i dont have much to do usually so im always around. I donno whats up with these cams all of the sudden either. I think what started it all was that trevor guy. I seen claims that he got "300rwhp with just cams!!" then all of the sudden it went from "300rwhp with just cams" to "300rwhp with full bolt ons and cams". If you ask me it was the first statement that started it all?
