Diff housing?

Has anyone remmoved the big chunk of iron bolted to the bottom of the pinion snout on the diff housing? I know its for vibration purposes but what will it effect if its removed?

Ive heard of people doing it to reduce weight. The only down side to doing it is that I can think of off the top of my head is its a pretty good jacking point.

A friend of mine said that it's there to reduce vibration and smooth out the stock driveshaft, and that when you bolt in an aluminum DS, you can remove it and not worry about vibrations. I haven't taken mine off yet, waiting until I get my DS, just to see if there's any improvement. It's a heavy piece, a good ten pounds or so.

I was cleaning my rims today and looking for jacking pionts. I looked in my owners manual and it had it's own box or bold heading DO NOT JACK FOR REAR DIFF. some cars you can but not ours!

Rear diff is plenty fine when it comes to using that big chunk of metal. As for putting the jack on the diff its self thats up to the person doing it although I wouldnt try that. TO HELL with trying to jack it on the pinch weld does nothing but screw shit up from what ive seen

The reason they say not to jack on the diff its self is becuase the stock stamped sheet metal cover can bend over on the bottom.

i usually just squat down, get a good grip, and lift the car up myself. ajm saw me do this a couple times back in the day. He slid the jackstands under for me. Mustang are not all that heavy, but the ford f350 diesel is a lil more heavy. Sometimes i have to grunt a lil bit on that size of a truck.

oh scott cant get a break... I hear he is making a killing off of the all in one maxi-pad. He said something to me about selling me one of his used tampons. You know how much money that will bring on ebay. Scott is a billionaire. I heard that moddedmustangs 99-04 section was where he made the millions at.
