Nitrous switch placement
While I'm waiting for my kit to get here I've been trying to decide where to mount my switches. I've searched and saw a discussion about mounting them in the console and that was my first thought. I've googled nitrous switches and have seen some pretty cool stuff that would look good in front of the shifter. Anyway, I'm curious where others have mounted theirs and if anyone has pics they'd like to share.
Oh yeah, I'll only have two switches - one to open the bottle and one to arm. I won't be using a bottle warmer or purge. Thanks. |

I have my arming switch, purge switch, and bottle heater switch in the little plastic console to the left of the cigarette lighter. The wireing was easy as hell too I just came up right along side the tranny along side of the shifter, and drilled the 1/2" holes for the switches. Took me about 45 minutes. Also saves you the hassle of trying to get you through the firewall and hide wireing and all that.

i am ran my arming switch to the fog lights and the purge down bellow the bottom of the trim beneath the steering column. purge would be a good thing but not really needed. i strongly recommend a heater though. you dont really dont get the full effect of the nitrous till the psi is around 900 psi. i think the nitrous sprays liquid at or around that pressure, below that is a gas form.

![]() Is a bottle warmer really necessary? If you're talking about a difference so small you'd have to be at the track and get a timeslip to know, I don't think I want to bother. Oh yeah, I saw the cup-holder switch set. That's what I was hoping to find, something that looks good and made to fit the car. Just not the cupholder, my wife and I use those just about everytime we're in the car. So I had to rule that one out. Anyway, I was thinking of getting the guy to make me a 2-switch panel with the blue LED's, and label them OPEN and ARM. BTW, I appreciate all the patience and help. |

looks cool but that trim piece isn't flat..... I actually mounted them on the trim piece and covered the gap from the contour w/ black rtv.

IMHO you should not run nitrous without a bottle warmer...The bottle needs to be at least 950psi to spray correctly...Without the heater you are in the hands of the weather...
Thats a nice panel... |

Warmer... There goes another $100, lol.
Thanks guys. I may have the panel made (3 switch now) and hide it. Maybe in the console or under the front edge of the seat - I've just got to crawl around the car good and look. |

A warmer is more then $100...
Buy a NX Bottle Warmer that is thermostatically controlled...It will run close to $200 but it is so worth it... I wish I could find the pick where the guy hid a Bottle pressure gauge and 3 switches in a custom made piece under his arm-rest... |

On the bottle warmer, this from Zex's website -
"ZEX Nitrous Systems have an advanced, patented feature called "Active Fuel Control". This feature monitors nitrous bottle pressure and adds or subtracts enrichment fuel so the engine never runs too rich, or too lean, when you engage the nitrous system." |

lol hes not talking about a warmer.. that feature is in the zex computer system. it monitors nitrous PSI and adds or subtracts fuel accordingly so that it will never run to lean or rich. it makes sure to spray and perfect ratio of nitrous/fuel every spray. a bottle warmer is still good to have you'll get more out of every fillup.

I may use one later but I've got to call a stop for now. I think I've spent over $1500 on go-fast goodies since I bought the car and I've barely had it two weeks. AND I've got to pay for a dyno-tune when I get all this stuff mounted. My wife would flip if she knew...

Well, let's hash this out because if I'm wrong I blow my motor. First off, you have to assume the Zex computer fails and does not adjust for bottle pressure. We'll assume that has happened. And my bottle is cold and pressure is low. So what happens when you spray in this scenario? You don't get a full shot of nitrous but you do get the extra fuel. You're running a little rich. As far as I know, running a little rich is A-OK. I thought the "danger-zone" is having too much nitrous and too little gas, that it was this condition that will fry the pistons or otherwise blow the motor.
What part have I got wrong? I want to be real clear about what I'm doing here. Thanks. |

The danger of it just running gas is that you will be very prone to having a situation where nitrous will puddle in the intake and can explode and destroy your intake... Im jsut saying that with a bottle warmer you dont rely on the computer in the zex kit being able to compensate for the low bottle pressure...If it is cold out side you might as well not even try and hit the nitrous...The bottle needs to be warm for optimal mixture... Ims ure Zex has all this covered though... But like we all know everything is a chance...You etiher take it or you dont... |
