Question

what does your car idle at??

i was driving home last night from a friends house and sitting at the light i noticed my car seems to be running at really low rpms at idle. it was about 6ish or so maybe a bit higher but not much...i was wondering what your alls cars are idling at and what it should be idling at...also has anybody noticed that at certain times there car jumps up in idle and then back down? i was told it was just something with the computer but i was still a bit curious? thanks guys!!

just cleaned tb a week ago, when i did seafoam the car and change oil and fuel filter as well. it doesn't always jump rpms at idle just every now and then almost like as if a set of cams were loping in the car, but it doesn't do it constant neither it does it maybe 3 times then straightens itself out

I set my idle to 780. I have the opposite problem, while I slow down in gear, if i take it out of gear, my idle sinks down to 500 then goes back up to 780, its really weird. if im out of gear and come to a stop it doesnt happen, only when im in gear then throw in neutral

Stock idle should be around 650-800 rpms.

Yea it def does. The lope is more noticable but not as loud, if that makes any sense. I never had it die when I was running at 600 although there were a few occasions where it sputtered a bit when pulling into a parking spot, I guess low rpm + the strain of the power steering pump is what would do it. Thats the only reason I bumped it up to 650. It would run fine at 550 as well in the drive way but I didnt want to risk it and be dieing out at lights n stuff lol.

Theres a setting somewhere in the tuner that is labled as "drive idle speed" and "neutral idle speed" or something like that. You can adjust it up and down in increments of 50.

yea. I may be wrong here on the specifics of what the tuner will pop up and what to select since I dont play with the thing enough to really know the ins and outs of it but plug it in etc and select load custom tune, pick your tune and hit select then the next screen will come up, you want to select "used saved options" or something like that. It should then pull up all the settings and stuff, go through and find the idle speed, adjust it, hit select, hit cancel or whatever it is to save/load the tune and youre good to go after it loads and does its thing.

yea its pretty simple, it doesnt take but a minute or two to do. probably takes longer for the tune to load than it does to get through all of the steps.

My idle is usually at 550 and jumps up occasionally. I drive an automatic btw.

Is that normal?
