$5k into car or $10k-$12k on new car?
So I've got a 2000 Mustang GT, 5spd, only 72k miles, and the only performance mods are an SLP Catback exhaust
I'm trying to decide what to do with this money, so I figured I'd ask MM! Should I drop $5k into the mustang, probably on a blower + tune + gears and hope for 400hp/400tq OR Should I sell the mustang and buy another car for $10k-$12k? Not sure what I could buy for that price range with comparable power numbers, probably only something with an LS1. I'm open to ALL cars, but the must have a backseat as I've got a 4 year old. What would you do? |

I'd mod, because if you do happen to get a s197 mustang for that price, it's gonna have hella miles on it

The only reason I say this is because of resale...If you save a bit more you could get a decent cobra in this "booming" economy. They will hold their value a lot more and with very few mods you will be well over 400rwhp. On the other side, you have your car and I am sure you love it, so if you absolutely are in love with your car make it into a sleeper. No one expects these GT's to carry 400 rwhp. Also you could check out HP Performance they have a customer on there who is running their stage I twin turbos with all stock internals and he has had no problems, on lower boost. Hope this helps

Build what you have. If you buy another car that just sets you back $ wise and takes away $ for modding.

72k miles isnt bad, you can get alot more out of that engine. hell my 03 is at 70k...i say keep it, for 10-12 your not gonna get as good of a car nor as sick of a car.

throw a blower on there and enjoy the ride. Stock cars arent fun anymore once you've driven a supercharged car

I'd say keep it and spend the money on mods. In the long run it'll be cheaper especially with the way things are going right now. To me that's half the fun of modding a car instead of buying one that way; within reason of course. So my vote would be for FI + supporting mods.
