good deal for a built rear end?

A local mustang guy is selling his built rear out of his mach1, offered it to me and wanted to see what you guys thought....

31 spline moser axles
4:10 FR gears
OEM Cobra diff -carbon clutches
frpp aluminum driveshaft
mac o/r hpipe
xcal3
boxed in/beefed up stock control arms

$1000 + my stock rear

GOOD DEAL?

He said he cut 1.6x's on it.

If you cant do the labor yourself to upgrade the one you have now then yes its worth it. If you can do the work yourself then I say its not really worth it.

Can't do the install, no tools or knowledge for it. Local shop quoted me $250 for just the gear install, I'm sure the install price would go up for gears/diff/axles, right?

Theyre probably gonna charge more to put in a different diff. although really there is less work involved in doing so since the old ring gear doesnt need to be removed from the old differential. All they have to do is slap the new ring gear on the new diff.

Your best bet would bet to just get the built one from that guy.

Cool, thinking of just offering him $800 for everything, unless the driveshaft isn't worth it?

What's the point of it? Just lose a few pounds?

For $125 id get the drive shaft, thats a pretty good deal. Its less weight that your engine has to turn meaning it can rev faster.

That really doesn't make it that much easier. The ring gear is only held on with a dozen bolts that fly out with an impact. Not only that but the new carrier needs bearings. So all in all its easier to use the old carrier.
For $700 its a damn good deal as long as it has what he says it does and is in good shape.

thanks guys, he's a good guy, I've known him for about 4-5 years, not really good friends but we talk/hangout throughout the year so I trust him not to do me wrong. He always helps me if I have a car question or am in a bind too, so he's cool.

Don't get your panties in a bunch, you caught me before I was done editing..... Yes you are right they will probably charge more for the new diff. That's because of the bearings not the ring gear.

It's a done deal!!! Woot, 4:10's move out. It's too late for screwing with the xcal, how easy is it to adjust my speedo/turn off my rear 02's? he couldn't find the instructions, so i'm gonna play with it tomorrow.

So pumped!

Oh, I also got Mach1 rear brakes out of the deal!!! Free!!! hehe, neither of us new they weren't interchangeable, so they had to stay on the axle, so another perk! They're huge.

Now i just need shocks, my quads are TOAST, and the rears are moveable by hand, so anyone recommend a good street/handling shock kit? I have Ford C springs on the car I believe, just want the car to handle good, a little firmer but not harsh.
