T-56 Tranny in a GT?

Just wondering who all has replaced there TR 3650 w/ a T-56 and how they liked it? Also was wondering what other modifications they did when putting in the T-56 other than the required modification like the driveshaft and cross member? If you switched the clutch which one did you go with and when switching out the clutch did you need a new flywheel w/ that?

Whats wrong with the 3650? I have a TR-3650 Transmission out of a 2003 mach 1 with 15K miles and I love it to death.

P.S. Nice hood, I'm jealous. How much did it cost you to get those flames put on?

what's wrong with the t-3650 is the fact that it is only a five speed.

the t-56 is a 6 spd.

I knew that, BUT...

C'mon, is it really worth it? Nothing is "wrong" with the 5-spd. I never was that amazed when I drove my friend's 5.0 (which has a 6spd tranny in it).

The 3650 is great.

the 3650 has an assload of problems with it..
it's a fairly "new" tranny

why do you think that you need a "new shifter" to not mis third gear?

Ah true. I mean... I never noticed the old problem because I have a BSR Modified Tri-Ax but....

the TR3650 has been working great for me?

C'mon, honestly... what fairly new product (ESPECIALLY in automotive industry) doesn't have its handful of problems and flaws?

most tr3650 have a hard time going into 3rd gear under a heavy load. the t56 far better built and easy swap. just need the basic things you offered. centerforce duel friction clutch is the way to go

i just broke my t45 again and thought about the t56 but when i got to thinking about the ratio's and the total set up i decided i am wanting to go with a tko instead, just my prference. the t56 is a nice tranny and would be a good swap but if you arent having any troubles out of what you got then why bother? the tko has a .62 final and the 3650 has a .67. the only major difference is how much the drop off is between gears and syncro's. the swap isnt bad and the t56 is better, it all in what you want and how much you want to spend.

3650 are junk just like the t-45, a 6-speed is so much stronger.

if you want a rounded figure then figure 2 grand. that is about a high average for a kit.

Eh, that's not bad. Maybe soon we'll see the 56 added to my mods list.

I just want some new wheels since. Can't afford to buy flippin FR500's for 240 a piece though.

its not about going faster there numbnutz, a tranny doesn't make you go faster people want a good tranny so they can drive it without it breaking. 3650 can't hold power, a t-45 can't hold power, and stock T-5, which he doesn't have cause they came in the 87-95 mustangs so when you say stick to the t-5 you are wrong. A t-56 not only is a 6-speed but its about strength and a t-56 is a alittle bit stronger than a t-45 and 3650. i have broken 3 t-45's since owning my car.

+1

A tranny has nothing to do with speed. AND... 3rd gear with the 3650 is seriously, a pain in the ass. See, I started with a non-stock shifter BUT... my ex girlfriend stangie had a stock tranny & Shifter and it made me want to hit stuff after second gear.

The 3650 has a tq capacity of about 360lb-ft and the t45 has a tq capacity of about 325lb-ft, while the cobra t56 can handle up to 450 lb-ft and the viper spec up to 680 lb-ft.

I'd say the t56 is "A LOT" stonger...

Also, when swapping a t56 you dont have to replace much. Just the tranny, bellhousing, clutch, shifter, and a driveshaft i believe..

alot stronger indeed.

As for what would need to be replaced, I haven't done that SPECIFIC swap but I went through a much rougher one so I am familiar with the area in question and it's def. a fact that the tranny, bellhjousing, clutch and obviously the shift would need to be replaced.

Beyond that is beyond me.

I just bought the T-56 for my car and am about to put it in. It ran me 2499 for the kit. It came w the tranny, a driveshaft, and the crossmember. I bought the kit from D&D Performance this was the cheapest I could find the kit. I haven't bought a clutch yet though and was wondering what clutch I should go with and if I need a fly wheel as well. Like everybody has said here the T-56 tranny is much stronger and more reliable than the 3650. Every since I had the 3650 it was crap. First my second gear went out then when racing my gf (haha) in her BMW I down shifted from 4th to 5th and boom 4th gear was gone. So 3650 is crap it can't handle any power and I have too much torque for it's specs. Any help with a new clutch and if I need a fly wheel with it would be much oblidged.
