overdrive

hey guys I know they say when your racing or horsing around, that its best to cut the overdrive off. But is it me or does it feel like it has more torque with it on?

No. Not at all.

Look at it this way.

I want you to bring your car up to about 35. (So you don't injure yourself since obviously, your not all that familiar with your cars power yet which I concluded from the above).

Now, click the Over Drive off, you'll feel the car pull back quite a bit. Now, Give it some gas, just not WOT. Floor it a little though. Feel the damn kick?

Don't start with it off, do what I just said exactly, don't pretend to, just go ahead and do it. It'll really show you the difference.

When you do, come back and see if you wanna revise that statement... if you don't there might be something wrong with your O/D switch

You sure you don't have it backwards? When the overdrive light is on that means overdrive is off.

Didn't mean to sound as if im being cocky or insulting your knowledge. Im a newb too but from what you said I thought maybe you had it backwards, you should feel more power when the overdrive is off.

I don't think your car has anything wrong. The reason it might seem to pull more with the T/A on is there is less tire spin and the T/A helps the tires grip, but the way it does that is by taking some power away from the spinning tires until they catch better traction. So because the tires seem to catch quicker it might seem to pull more.

Well I almost always cut the traction control off. I can't stand for it to be on for some reason, unless it raining. clueless

I used to do that until on day I was starting from a light and a Chevy cavilier tried to fly by. I floored it with the T/A off and my car went completely sideways. Scared the sh*t out of me. From then on I figured the T/A wasn't all bad.

I don't mean this in a gay way. But I love you.

Dude. THERE is no way the car pulls harder with O/D on unless something is seriously screwed up, no no... there isn't even that possibility. No.

Your just dumb. Sorry kid. You seem decent, but no.

Well I know what I'm feeling. And its nowhere near as strong with the od off. You would think that it should be but it's not, not in my car anyway. I've been trying different ways to toy with it for some time now. (at least a year). But like I said i'll take it to the shop if all else fails.

So... this power happens with the O/D light off or on?

Oh dear god.

WHEN the light on the dash comes on, it clearly reads O/D off. THAT is when your over drive is well... off , it's not exactly "more power" it's more access to it so to speak. Here is a crude explanation which has no real mechanical or technical explanation.

Alright, so you have seven ice pops, 2 blue, 1 green, an orange... wait, wrong explanation.

Seriously.

Auto vehicle aka stangie.

With OverDrive on (when the dash light is off), you have "4 gears" so to speak. The vehicle has sort of... a "Buffer" the over drive creates? So when you accelerate with it on, it's softer, smoother, and more fuel efficent.

When you click overdrive off, aka the dash light comes on, you access the raw power, you are tossing between the 3 raw gears, no cushion there.

ignore Mstgg00 sarcasm he's very emotional!!!
Lmao. Good call, I gained a little respect for you haha.

I am not emotional just a jerk sometimes haha, it's rough in these daggon parts of town (thats me being a hillbilly) haha. ANYWAY...

to the point, the comments I did mention above minus the ice pop part was serious... that is a good newb level explanation.
