2002 Mustang GT

A local Ford dealer is selling a 2002 Mustang GT....

I believe it is a 5 speed, I has a bunch of options, leather etc....

It has 101k on the clock, and they are asking $9,950 for the car, It looks very clean with newer tires on it....Is this a good price? I plan to put about 30,000 miles on the car in the next 2 years, I hope it will last that long....

Thanks!
Adam

That's my thoughts exactly, I've been around too though, 67 Camaro, 2001 Camaro SS, and now looking for a Mustang

BUT, I am selling my 67 for 7,500 so I'm looking for something around the 10k range, I'll have to take out a pathetic 2-3k loan !!!

Approx, How many miles do these cars usually get before major problems start occruing?

I really want one, but can't get payments over 100$ a month, I drive 80mi round trip about 4-5 days a week, so the car will get some mileage, college is a biotch, so until I grad in spring of 09, I can't afford too much!!!

I wouldn't buy it. Too high of mileage to start out with and then your going to rack up a whole bunch more miles just going to school. I would find a good beater that gets good gas mileage and start pocketing every penny you can and get something you know you'll like. If you have to question yourself about the car it probably isn't worth getting. Just my $0.02.

I have a good beater now, but I'm selling my camaro....So I will have some cash to buy a new daily driver....

It is hard to find a "good beater" that will make the long trip every day...

I've seen 50-70k mile cars going for around 10-11k

My point is, I need a fun car to drive everyday!

BTW- What kind of gas mileage do these cars get?

Get what you like, but I feel like that would be a bad choice. If I had to depend on my Mustang to drive everyday I would be in a hell of a bind, and it only has 40,000 miles on it.

With my Bullitt I have seen 28 on the high way with the only mod being an o/r x at the time. Most the time I get 18 in the city with a CAI, O/R X, and a SSS catback. I can get 20 in the city if I drive it like grandpa.

Why would you be in a bind? My buddy drives his 94 Z28 with about 126k 30miles a day to and from school....

Are these cars that bad as daily drivers?

My 01 SS M6 did it fine!!

The price is about $1500 or $2000 too high but then again its a dealership they're there to rip people off. The car will be fine as long as everything is ok with the car. You wanna check things like rust, service records and the Carfax report not to mention tires...lots of times dealerships will put crappy tires on a trade in to save money. I spent $10000 for my 01 GT and it had 83,000 miles on it, just be prepared to have to pop for unplanned expenses like clutch service, brake replacement etc. And dont beat on it.

I won't beat on it...much! I was planning on offering 9k for it, I should have my camaro sold for 7k....My dad actually owns a medium sized auto shop, I am not spoiled, but I do get free access to lifts and tools ( I buy parts)....I just need this car to last a couple years, then who knows, I might throw a new drivetrain in it....what kind of tests should we run? Compression test? I plan to cold start then drive it around for a few miles until it is warmed up....I may go check out the car in more detail tomorow after school....any other comments or suggestions? I really appreciate all the heads up!!!

Thanks!
Adam

I say that you would be in a bind, because if you get the Mustang then you are going to want to modify it. Look at me, I started chasing a header leak- two weeks later my heads are at the shop, I have a new pair of cams laying on the table, numerous bolt-ons being mailed out right now, direct port nitrous is going on, the only thing left under my hood is the shortblock, and I have to be in Nashville next Wed.

If I did not have my truck (2005 Daytona if you're interested), I would be bumming rides. Don't think that you can buy a Mustang and just be happy with it- not possible for me anyway......

I hope you get it though- it will be fun...

BTW: I bought my 03' GT w/ 28,000 miles about a year ago for $13,000.

Trust me, my pockets won't let me mod the car...I am active in the "racing" community though. My good friend owns the local dragstrip, but I do not have any urge to race anymore, I won't lie, I do plan on a CAI and Cat-back....Nothing too extreme though

I do not have to buy this 02 GT, but I do like it and its fairly cheap. I do see Bullit Mustangs going for a lot cheaper though, what is the story behind this? Are there any classic signs/symptoms prone to Mustangs I should look for?

Thanks alot again!!! This site is very helpful, and I am a diehard Bowtie turning into a Blue Oval!!!

I'm in NW Indiana, about 30 miles south of Chicago, FYI.

This isn't the car but about the same details....I really can't find a GT for under 11-12k with less then 100,000 miles.

If your in no rush, I would search around some more for a private seller. I picked up mine with 67k miles for 10500 2yrs ago. Also if it is a true bullitt and its cheaper, I would get that instead. It will be worth more down the road.

Thanks, I'm not really in a rush, since my 4x4 can handle the snow instead of the Mustang, but I'd like to pick it up at least before spring hits along with inflation!!
