I'm just trying to stop the bleeding here. There are about 200 threads on this forum where redneck and crew are suggesting te 5.4 swap, but the power just isn't getting made. I can't see dumping 6-7G's into a motor that is inferior to the motor someone already has that has been proven to easily go into the 350 range.. What say you?

Redneck, please see this thread so you can keep all information not pertaining to the topic out of tech. Thanks.

know most are saying that the 4.30 gears wont work with the 5.4 2v.. My ? is why not... Isnt it the same as going with a 4.6 jut more torque? I understand traction issues but I will be running a 27-28 inch tall tire at the track... So is there any other reasons why they wont work??

Some logical insight from another thread:

So f I take the same mods I put into the 4.6 and put them into a 5.4 I should be the same or gain some right.. I am pretty sure Lightning's and Harley trucks have 5.4 2v's in them and they can run pretty damn good..... And I have seen some posted results from other but I am going to have to dig them up...

kinda like the difference betweena 5.0 and a 4.6

the grunt is more in the low end on the fox and it runs out of grunt in the higher rmps while the 4.6 doesn't have any grunt until 3k RPM's and can hold the grunt in the higher RPM's better than the 5.0
Well, they don't rev as fast with the longer stroke, and the 2V heads are not big on flow- barely enough to fill up a 281, so trying to use the same heads on a 330 cube motor is just going to amplify the shortcomings of the heads.
I'm not saying that power can't be made with the 5.4, but I am saying that it is neither cost effective or proven yet. The 5.4 MIGHT get the 4.6 out of the hole, but when second gear comes around all the low rpm TQ of the long stroke motor becomes useless and the 4.6 will out rev a similar 5.4 all day. So, if you could build a 4.6 with 350 HP or a 5.4 with 300 HP for the same money, I see no reason to go with the 5.4 unless you are trying to pull your boat around town with your Mustang. Also, all I have heard is TQ, TQ, TQ from these guys, but for similar money to what Redneck has spent, we are making 350+ RWTQ with the 4.6 to his 330.

A 5.4l with 4v heads and a KB or Whipple is a nice engine, but they still have a low redline. don't see them being any good with a centri or any power adder that peaks at a high rpm. I agree with ac if you want any power out of one you need better heads(4v)

whoa!... i go away for a few days and not only do you guys allow this azzhole to start fukking up my thread, but you also get WAY off topic. come on guys... i expected better from you... lol. lets just ignore the dickhead, because i dont think any of us are interested in his opinion anyways, not to mention the fact that he has not beneficial information regarding what im doing(nothing but "whine" "whine" "whine" everywhere he posts, hes a goddamn virus). you'd think someone would have "things to do", like real life "DOING THINGS", but i guess some people are just born losers with nothing better to do than live a bitchy "E-life". poor bastard...

im gonna start going around looking at engines next week. any sugestions? you guys own 5.4s maybe you have some out of the ordinary insight as to what i should be looking for. Also recommendations for years, egr/no egr, acceptable miles(im thinking 60,000 or less will be nice), etc.

I was just talking to a guy that did a 5.4 swap and for mods he did, cams, ported the heads 24 lb injectors, fuel pump, tune and shorty headers. He said it made 314hp and 362tq. Not bad i dont think. Did all the work on the heads and cam himself. Total price was pretty cheap. Throw on a 100 shot and would be pretty nasty.

thats pretty good. cams and heads that r ported id be expecting a little more though. trap speeds r a little more reliable thing than a dyno to see results IMO. to many inconsistencies btw the stang dynos, the dynojets, etc. do u know what he did in the quarter??? ive been trying to find someone local who has done the swap too, even a 2V. cant find anyone yet. i just got home from a ricer meet with a few of my ricer buds and i talked to all the mustang guys, but no dice...

Not sure. I think the numbers were without the upgraded fuel setup. What do these motors rev too when ported and camed? Forgot to ask the guy.

not 100% sure, but id think around 6,000 maybe 7,000 with the 4V. r3d, casper, and 330cube are the ones to ask.

Just drain all the fluids, disconnect all wiring, take the driveshaft out, and drop the K-member, tranny, and exhaust from the catback forward out in one assembly.
