5.4 Swap - NEED INFO
The ticking sound in the motor of my '99 GT sure sounds a lot like a rod bearing on the way out. That being the case ive decided not to waste my time rebuilding a 4.6 or dumping more money into a 110,000 mile motor and put a 5.4 in its stead. I know that most people like to get these from ford trucks and vans(f-150, f-250, e-150, etc.) but i need to know what models and years of trucks and vans to look for. Furthermore id like to know what motor will be the best choice for the swap. Im gonna stay 2V SOHC for the sake of ease as well as pricing, but i want to know my options and what the benefits are between the different choices. Casting numbers would obviously be the best thing if anyone has them at hand, but i dont anticipate that many people will. Later ill also need to know what other parts ill need for the swap(flywheel, intake, adapter plates, etc.) and where to get them. For know id really like to know where to look for this motor cause ill be doing this within the month.
P.S. i know there are other threads related to this topic. Please dont try to direct me elsewhere. I am a senior in college and simply DO NOT have the time to weed through thousands of posts across hundreds of threads to get the info im looking for. Thanks.

get an 00-01 5.4 from an expedition or f-150. it will have the pi heads, be lighter weight due to not having that NVH bullcrap, and you get your 5.4. then all you really need is an hps 5.4 intake manifold and your pretty much done. that is if your going 2v, cant really speak much about 4v. any other questions plz ask

Budget is gonna have to be $2,000 max. You can also account for whatever money i may make from the sale of my 4.6 engine.

You will not be able to keep your LT, and that means you will need a new mid pipe. A 5.4L will drop right in. It will reuse the factory harnesses so there will be no problems, you might have to extend a few wires though.

bunch of diffrent opinions on headers but while researching my 5.4 swap best answer I came up with is stock (mustang 4.6) manifolds or frrp shorties. as for the motor it's self get what you can afford/find but don't forget earlier motor's (pre 99) have forged crank's from the factory. good luck.

i didnt know that swapping the 5.4 sohc in there would be an almost direct swap. I thought you would still need the wiring harness, computer, etc.

minor tweaking of exhaust & an intake manifold about the only issues (very easily overcome though). very minor wiring work also. but a simple bolt in for the most part.

I'd look into the 4.6 3v swap stuff out there. I'd bet some of it will cross over.

Unless he finds a deal on a 3V engine like I did he would be over budget. The conversion is simple though and the Kit from Logan MS alows you to use your existing ECU and exhaust. I know you said you didnt want to rebuild your 4.6 but honestly, thats what I would do on that budget. Good luck

i can get a 2v for 1k or less. its retarded to rebuild a 100,000 mile motor if i can get a larger one for less. lol. shouldve done this sooner.
