Exhaust Drone, Any Solutions? Also Interesting Flow Data

I have a PYPES catted X-pipe and get annoying drone at 2000rpm's. I added silencing tips to the exhaust but no effect on drone and no restriction on flow but I neeed nicer tips anyways but I cannot tolerate the drone. Here is some data on some popuar mufflers and if anyone is using any of these please respond with what effect they have as regards to overall loudness and of course DRONE!
1. Dynomax Super turbo-268cfm
2. Flowmaster 2 chamber-249cfm
3. Borla Turbo-373cfm
4. Hooker Aero Chamber-324cfm
5. hooker Max Flow-521cfm
Anyone using the Hookers? Lots of flow there but what about Drone? I have heard guys say the Flowmasters have the same 2K rpm drone as my PYPES Race Pro's have.
For pricing the Dynomax are $39.95 at Summit or Jegs. The Borla's are a bit pricy at around $111. also at Summit/Jegs. The Hookers, both models, are just $59.95 for a lot of flow. Not sure on the Flowmasters as I have not heard much good about them with any car I have owned. Please feedback on what system/mufflers you have and loudness and drone if applicable. Thanks, mark

If you want to eliminate drone, magnaflow's do an excellent job, quiet when you want em and lound when you need em. Especially with the catted x, they SHOULD resolve if not help. I know several people with catless midpipes and the maggys do a pretty good job. Just my .02

I have the magnaflow catted-x & catback, & I don't have any drone. Its also a straight through muffler. I also hear alot of good things about bassani, borla, & SLP but I couldn't tell you if they drone since I've never been in a car that has them.

my buddy doesnt have much drone with his magnaflows, i have the magnapacks and they do drone. not all that bad but it does get annoying every once in a while. i like the hooker mufflers and run them on 3 of my other cars but havent ran it, or heard it on the 4.6 yet.

I have seen what summit sells and they have a muffler with a spiral set-up inside but they are a round muffler and not sure they would fit in the place of my PYPES standard ovals that are 14" long. For a catback it's the mufflers that make the sound. Sure not having cats would make the exhaust louder and perhaps change the not some but I am looking to switch out mufflers or add another somewhere that is a straight flow thru. On my '93 Talon turbo I had a Summit glasspack up front and stuffed an 18" bodied SS Madnaflow with dual 3" outlets to which I added silencing tips which are nothing more than something like a mini muffler, perforated inner walls with a this layer of insulation betwween the outer wall. That car sounded nice, powerful for a 2 liter yet not an obnoxious sound. So I need to get this right the next time. I got the quietest PYPES and even stainless that I will sell as I firmly believe for an 17-18 year old with limited finds that cutting out the stock mufflers and adding some freeflow ones will give better sound and some performance. Catbacks are bno where woorth the csh. Heck a Summit catback for a Stang at $169. is most likely giving as much power as any. Basically the catback is about the sound not power.

My friend has magnapack with the magnaflow O/R X pipe and has no drone. I love the sound of his car. Sounds very old school muscle car. Always know when he's in the area. LOL

Thanks for the experiences. I have deceided to go with Dynomax Super turbo's. The exhaust makes a pass through the muffler 3 times and has minimal drone. I've used them before and they were loud but the Dunomax site has them as the ones with the least drone and they flow 268cfm from the tests broaderperformance.com did. MSweet

I don't have a clue what those will do on a Mustang, but I have a pair of those on my Chevy truck, they do drone around 1500 to 1700 rpm. Not bad, but it is a pickup and might be worse on a car. Very good mufflers though when you want a nice V-8 rumble that's on the mild side.

I'll find out. A friend has them but a larger canister as his car is large but no drone. Corsa performance makes mufflers that are known NOT to produce drone but our nmodel Mustang is not listed but I emailed them to see if a generic muffler is available. Thanks
