A Project We Just Finished Up

Hey guys.. first post here. We're just finishing up a project here in the shop I thought might interest some of you. Far as I know, this hasnt been done before or if it has, it's not a very common retrofit.

What we've done is retrofitted a 03 Cobra supercharger to an 04 GT using a manifold originally intended to mount a Magnacharger on the GT. We also used an 03 Cobra heat exchanger and aftercooler core.

Here's the before picture

Here's the after picture

At 12 PSI, the car made 395 horsepower at the wheels and 458 ft/lb of torque. It wants more timing.. its VERY conservative. We don't feel like the stock shortblock can handle much more so we're probably going to de-tune it before we let it go home.

Anyway, this was a one off deal.. we don't plan on making a kit or anything although the guy who owns the car might decide to offer it as a kit at some point. Most likely it would need the lower manifold recast because we had to modify the manifold provided to us pretty extensively and "clearance" the block to get it to fit.

The reason he decided to go this way was because 03 Cobra blowers are pretty plentiful and inexpensive once people take them off to upgrade.

I'll be happy to answer any questions you guys might have about the project. You can post up here or PM me. We're mainly a fabrication/performance shop and don't sell anything so feel free to ask away.

Oh yea, full disclosure.. I actually work for Autoforums, Im just not under my normal admin name I use on all the other forums cuz it was already taken here.. thats why my post count is kind of wonky.. needed to be able to post photos

To our knowledge, there wasnt a kit. If there was, I'd love to see it. We just used what the customer dropped off to us and said "Make it work."

Can you give me a link to their kit? Id like to see if there are any differences.

Ahhh.. I believe thats the lower we actually started off with but it was made for a Magnacharger instead of an Eaton blower. Odds are that when we started this project, this kit didn't exist. Looks very similar to what we did with a couple of small exceptions. Kinda pricey sans blower but as cheap as the blowers can be had, it's a nice upgrade. It's way more than the stock bottom end can handle, thats for sure.

Im pretty sure this kit didnt exist when we started this project. Plus we had a lot of the parts laying around the shop so we didnt have to buy anything new really. This is what the customer brought us to work with, not something we said "Gee whiz, lets put an 03 Cobra blower on a GT and see what happens"

The stuff was dropped off about a year ago. I dont know how long he had the stuff in his possession. Anyway, we fabbed up some stuff on the manifold and then the project just sort of sat. We sent the manifold to our machinist and he had it for a while taking care of some other machining work that needed to be done. Once we got everything back in our possession, it took us about 8 days to get it all fabbed up.

This is working off the original 1st gen Magnacharger kit. In fact, I believe that the guy who had us do all this stuff is who actually talked Tork Teck into doing the kit for the 03 Cobra blower retrofit.

Anyways, with a kit being available, I have to say, its a potent combination. The torque comes on like crazy and the power potential is more than the stock shortblock can handle. It turned out pretty nice.. Its good to know if someone else wants to do it, there is a mostly complete kit out there and you wont have to go through all the headaches we went through making it all fit.

looks good regaurdless of whether there was a kit or not. seems like this wouldnt be a bad swap if the parts for the intake manafold werent so much $. i know that the eaton m112s can be had pretty cheap, along with the cobra fuel upgrades, all said in done, youll end up with a price of a full procharger kit
