can a fenderwell cold air (supercharger) kit suck up water while driving..?

just curious, i seen my car with the anderson power pipe and sct 90mm mass in it and the k&n nearly touches the bottom of the plastics in the fenderwell...
anybody here of any problems like this happening, i know if i would drive in the rain , i would not try to hit water puddles, but what about normal splashing?....seems pretty protected in there, but you never know....
i tried searching and found 1 which may or may not have been the cause....the filter is pointing in the downward position..
anybody want to put my mind at ease?.

It is pretty protected from splashing water from the front tires, but I guess anything is possible.

it's completely possible. don't drive through big puddles... if the water goes up to the body panels in the car, you shouldn't be driving through it in the first place, but u will most likely be sucking up some water

All I know is I wouldn't get it on my car.

But that's

Some people run em' others don't. Just a big word of advice is don't go through puddles.

I have heard of a very select few people having problems with it....IMHO you would have to run the car through a lake to pick up that much water lol

i always had this dilema also, i was big into the offroading scene with my ranger before i got my mustang. i was always worried about sucking up water into the filter, but the fact is that youll need to pretty much submerge the whole filter to cause a strong enough vaccum to suck up a decent amount of water, im my ranger i ran the stock airbox without the stock snorkle and simply drilled about a dozen 1/2" holes in the bottom of the air box, that way is water did get sucked in it would drain out the bottom of the air box before getting sucked into the intake. if you run a cone filter, which you probably do, you can get one of these covers that are water resistant and still flow great. heres the link and a neat video

as long as you dont submerge the intake into water, you will be ok. ive had mine for a year now and it always rains out here. just be careful when driving

ok, sounds good....i guess i could shorten it some but the 90mm mass is in the fender as well...thats where the powerpipe puts it, so i have the mass and filter in the fender.., but i have all my plasitics in place as well as a front lip....
do all mustangs have a full sheet of plastic across the front end?...because mine does which all is a good water barrier ...
just curious..

While it is possible you would have to have your front bumper covered before its an issue. even if part of the filter where in water its much more dense than air so the air would just flow in above it.

It is possible to suck up water even on a NA CAI setup. I recall a certain someone on here the went through a unknownly big deep puddle and his engine took an unhealthy gulp of water and bent some rods.

right, i would just steer clear of puddles. also, thats the job of your wheel well thinger inside the fender.... mudcover i think its called, to stop all that splashing. but i have also heard of people removing that to get the maximum air flow to their intake pipe which is bad idea i think.

An airfilter would need more than just the tip to dip in water to cause major problem. A few holes in a straw dont equate to filter element. You would have to cover enough in water to where it cant suck in enoguh air then would pull the water in.
