01 4.6L 2V cylinder heads porting & polishing

Hello,

I'm new to the forum, thanks to all who have contributed to all of the good info in the archives. I would like to get some input on porting & polishing my cylinder heads vs. purchasing the Patriot stage II or III.
a- what is the range & consideration of spec's are recommended to provide to machine shop doing the work?
b- could having this done potentially be advantageous to purchasing performance cylinder heads.
c- what is your experience for those who have done this themselves.
d- what are the other options other than patriot and pro;'s and con's, hp/torque effects etc ?

Thanks,

Tom

Well with a stage 3, you'll have to have an over bore of at least .20

all the heads available for for modulars are just ported pi ford heads. there is not an aftermarket head casting for these cars yet.

Does anyone know anything about when the Trick Flow heads will be avilable? I know in the recent MM&FF , or 5.0 (can't remember which mag right now) they are droping in a stroker modular into a silver 2000 GT, and it says they were trying to get the trick flow heads on there, but Trick Flow was busy "ramping up prodution at the time".

To the OP, these would be what you want to go with if you are even thinking about taking you heads off of your car. You can read about them here.

thanks for the good info Double0Fox, I've also been awaiting Edlebrocks Heads.

I'm hoping also to hear if anyone out there has had their stock cylinders heads ported and polished ?

That highly depends on your other mods. I had mine done and installed cams with a blower so I see a lot more gain than a N/A enginie from the P/P. N/A with worked heads, cams, CAI, and tune could put you around 300 +/- and a similar TQ gain. A must if you plan on going FI in the future

i heard right around 1800, idk if it is something i would do, but apparently you can run a pretty big cam without ptv contact. im curious to see what a stroker motor with a sick cam will do with those heads. i hear you can even port them more. would be cool to get over that 400 mark n/a. total sleeper

porting and polishing is never a bad idea, but i feel most people do not consider it if they are staying n/a due to the fact that you have to tear down the top end of your motor. with bolt ons, stock cams, and no nitrous or blower, you'd probably gain 15-20hp i would guess. there are alot of guys with full bolt ons and just cams making 300hp with stock heads. but if you are going to go through the trouble of getting your heads p&p you might as well get some cams while your at it, it will be the best time to do it since your motor will be disassembled

I wouldn't have a shop do a port N polish that didn't already have a good working knowleadge of what works for ford modular heads.

I'm very happy with my patriot stage II heads.

The best company out there for ported heads is probably foxlake, but it will cost you. I seem to make similar numbers with the patriots. Patriots heads had some trouble with valve guides, seals and valve height in the past, but they have seemed to work out the bugs since.
