fpdm
i going to be running twin gt pumps and hung up on what to do with the fpdm. i didnt think the stock cobra pumps will handle what i am going to throw at the car so i went ahead and decided on a pump swap.
what i am thinking: 1- pay the $$$ for a modified fpdm and it will be plug in and go pretty much. i would upgrade the wires inside the hat that go to the pumps. 2- run dual fpdm's, figure out the wiring to hook them up, and try to figure out how to get 2 wires from fpdm into the tank and get the hat to seal as well. anyone have opions and experience on this? |

AC did the dual fpdm. I think thats the way to go if you have the know how and time to do it. I just did the stage 2 fpdm, wasn't going to run 2 pumps but gave me room to grow into them if i did it later on.
I have a stock fpdm that i haven't put for sale yet. If you want to go that route you can shoot me a pm. Was on the car 55k miles.

Cobra pumps not enough? Holy crap! I have Cobra pumps and a BAP. Did over 600-650rwhp on my twins....that isn't enough? Duty cycle on the pumps with BAP was in the 75-80% range...if you plan NA and nitrous...it will only be better as your BSFC rate is lower on a NA car with nitrous compared to boost.
I think you need to move closer to me..and we need to build cars! lol.

i didnt want to do a BAP, the cost of a BAP is the same as an upgraded fpdm and gt pump is under 100 bucks. i thought the fpdm needed to be modified to safely handle the BAP as well. i know ac did the dual fpdm, but the wiring is still kind of sketchy to me. i think its nothing more than slice 3 or 4 wires together, run independant 12+ wires, ground them both, and run new wires from fpdm to pumps.

I run a modified FPDM, 40 amp BAP, Dual Lincoln Aviator fuel pumps and a 10g wire upgrade with a 40 amp relay and a inline fuseable link. I was at 80% fpdc still using stock lines and rails. Plus I seem to dyno 25-30 rwhp higher at other dynos compared to where I tune.

Dual FPDMs will work just fine and is a much cheaper option. The upgraded fpdms do have the advantage of working faster, but i'm still unsure if it really matters in the real world.

Nothing wrong with a BAP at all. I would rather run a BAP then try to cut up the harness and add another FPDM. I know I can handle wiring and the install, but the less you have to install and wire, the LESS you have to worry about failing. I run my stock FPDM like it came from Ford in 99. No problems. Twin Cobra pumps, 40amp BAP... Twin Cobra pumps on a N/A motor should get you WELL, WELL over the 450-500rwhp mark...

well, running dual fpdm's will require needing to get another wire thru the hat, right?
its not that i worry too much about pushing the limits more than i have an idea of how i want my fuel lines set up aftre its done. |

Yes, It will req another power and ground line.
Honestly...I have built and wasted money on a lot of things and it has made me smarter in my builds of what is NEEDED and what isn't. Im just tyring to help save you a few pennies. Twin Cobra pumps are a strong drop in solution, in stock form with stock FPDM. They can support 400+ishrwhp on BLOWER cars. That duty cycle drops even more to a turbo car, and even more so on a N/A/Nitrous setup. I would just drop in the 03/04 Hat for now...and see where that gets ya. Throw your money in the motor man!

Well you can run a single modified FPDM, or the Dual. I have always just sold the single modified Stage 2 FPDM and never had any problems.
If for whatever reason you don't want to go that route you can purchase the new MDMjr by Zone 5. That is designed specifically for aftermarket fuel pumps and KB BAPs. Hope that helps. Derek |

No, I'm pretty sure you can just time them together and don't even need to drop the tank. Basically a parallel circuit.
