Rod knocking, motor shopping.

Might have to start looking for a motor if my knock gets any worse. Whats the best way to go about getting a motor? Cheapest and quickest way. Not looking for carb motor.

03/04 Termi motor swap. You can find a full drivetrain w/ ECU for around 75-8k. Engine, Tranny, ECU, etc. (Sometimes you may find them cheaper and other times you may find a package deal for like 1k more.)

But before you jump too conclusions looking for a new engine you may want to consider rebuilding yours w/ some forged internals, etc. if money is going to be tight.

im in a similar situation. rod bearing on the way out... i decided to go with a 5.4 4V motor swap. i have a gigantic thread on here with a ton of good info on both the 2V and 4V 5.4s. check it out. the 2V is extremely simple to do(as easy as putting in another 4.6).

rebuild kits sell for well over a grand. dont rebuild it, save yourself some time and money and just buy a new one. craigslist, craigslist, craigslist. thats all there is. i just bought a motor i have been looking for 6 months now my 98GT had a knock. just got my hands on a 02 PI crown vic motor and just about to drop it in. Just find one, swap it, run it, crack a beer, drive it fast.

MMR rotated and balanced shortblock, then swap everything over, in and out for less than 4k and bullet proof.

I cant decide if I want to rebuild or just get a running motor. I'd like to do a 5.4 swap would be nice but I want something strong I can throw a good size shot and not be worried about it snapping. Looking at a budget of say 2,500?

The only recommendation above that is both easy and cheap is to get one from Craigs list. The MMR short block rebuild, 4v swap or 5.4 swap are not necessarily what I would call easy (meaning a direct drop in or slight modification). If you don't want to use Craigs list go to a nearby salvage yard and pick up a 2v. The salvage yards I've dealt with all give you a short warranty period. If you feel ambitious then go to the salvage yard and get a 3v then get the 3v conversion. You won't have to buy a complete new exhaust and you can use your stock wiring harness and ECU.

A 5.4 swap is going to be a waste of time. The kids on here talk 5.4 all day long, but the only one who has actually done the swap and produced numbers for scrutiny put down 280RWHP after building the shortblock, ported heads, ported hardballr intake, comp cams, and spending about $3000 for a set of headers that would work with the swap. For all the people suggesting the 5.4, ask them what their cars have made (power wise) with the 5.4 and you are going to hear a list of fantasies and excuses about 10 pages long. As far as the 5.4 swap thread goes, it is chocked full of needless chit chat and theories. If you want a strong 4.6, I will be glad to give you some advise that will get you right around 340-350 HP and TQ from a stock stroke and bore 4.6- and that's proven.
