Putting 4.10's in my 01 Mustang GT 5 spd

Well, I called a local ford dealership and they gave me a quote of 813.00 dollars to put 4.10's in my car. WTF???!!!!??? how in the hell could they charge me that much money to put damn gears in my car? if you have had someone else put gears in your car, how much did they charge you??

I did the install myself, just cost parts and beer....
The local shops however quoted me around $500 with parts included. One shop specialized in Mustang performance, the other specialized in rear-end gearing. $500 is about right, they can be a pain to align correctly.

Why would you ever go to a dealership to get aftermarket work done? You had to know they were going to try to rape you. LOL

You can get Ford Racing gears for about $150-200, pm tommyboy, he just bought Ford Racing 3:73's for about $150, I don't remember where. Just call around the local shops and get a price quote. Like White99stang said, NEVER go to the dealership for anything except warranty stuff, they will ALWAYS rape you.

I would call around. Not everyones does gears since they can be very tricky. Any local transmission place should be able to do it. I know Aamco won't do it, because they won't install aftermarket gears.

I bought Ford Racing gears and i didn't have to make any adjustments. Just take the old ones out and replace with the new ones. The shims stay the same.

If you do this though I would definitely get a dial indicator just to make sure that your backlash is right and you don't have to add a few shims here and there. Not hard at all though. I have done this twice once in the front and rear end of my f-250 and in the rear end of my mustang. Never have had any problems.

That's nuts. I do believe I would have told him where to put that bill - I don't pay people to tell me what the can't do.
