The crank WILL hold more hp than the pistons and rods. Sweet is of the opinion that you can push better than 650 hp through it without issue. I am of the opinion that that's pushing the limits of the cast integrity. And that's exactly why the rods are only worth the 450 rwhp. That is the equivalant of the breaking point in the metal, the rods are just physically not stronge enough to hold anymore hp. As to whether or not you can buy a lower compression head gasket and if that would eliminate the issue, I doubt that would help. Because of the inherent cylinder pressure you're going to create with the SC anyway. Lowering compression is going to help make hp, but its not going make the rods stronger.

450 is just a round about figure of the rotating assembly the way it sits. it can do more, i have seen it. its all in the way power is made, etc. the cranks are damn stout and can hold 650rwhp, above that a forged crank is highly recommended.

ill probably go with 5550 to the wheels and stop there until i get the money to buy a forged crank of some sort..
