It elliminates the uses of the belt to power the pump shortening the drive belt distance and freeing up the restriction that it takes for the belt to run the pump.

well actually your not shortning the belt you still use the stock belt its just less accessories for your motor to turn. the come with a idler so you belt will still go around it but it will not take any power from your motor to make it work since its electric. You can prob get about 10hp from it.

personally, i dont reccomend and electric water pump on a street car. If you have any kined or wiring problem or elelctronic malfunction you pretty much lose drivability of your vehicle and you're not going anywhere. With a belt driven pump, if it breaks, at least you can limp home.

Think about what you just said. If you lose power to your electric pump, you have no coolant flow. If your belt driven pump breaks not only do you have no coolant flow but you also have no belt to run your accesorries anymore because chances are the bearing failed and the shaft broke. How is that better? A good electric pump works fine on the street and will cool the car much better than a stock pump. Wire it properly with a relay and you will never have an electrical problem.
