The Police Interceptor is equipped with an external oil-to-coolant heat exchanger to reduce engine oil temperatures, allowing the vehicles to idle for extended lengths of time without overheating. The engine oil coolers are notorious for seeping oil from the O-ring seals after extensive use

The Police Interceptor engine calibration comprises a slightly higher idle speed (by approximately 40 rpm) and minor changes in the emissions settings. The computer is tuned for more aggressive transmission shift points, and the transmission itself is built for firmer and harder shifts.

The 2006–present Police Interceptors equipped with a 3.55:1 rear axle ratio from the factory are electronically limited to 120 mph (193 km/h) due to the lower driveline-critical vehicle speed, while the Police Interceptors equipped with a 3.27:1 rear axle ratio have generally been limited to approximately 135 mph (217 km/h). This compares to 110 mph (177 km/h) for the "civilian" model.[2]

Ford used an aluminum metal matrix composite driveshaft for the 1993–2005 Police Interceptors as a measure to allow safe operation at over 150 mph (241 km/h), but it was more expensive than the regular aluminum driveshafts. Ford reintroduced the 3.55:1 rear axle ratio in the 2006 model year Police Interceptors, and set the speed limiter at 120 mph (193 km/h) to reduce the risk of driveline failure.

Police Interceptors also have a reinforced frame and body mounts, an aluminum drive shaft (aluminum metal matrix composite for the 1999–early 2001 model years), and an optional limited slip rear differential.

New age Interceptors for 2011+ motor maybe the cammer 5.0L

The Interceptor Concept uses a Ford Racing 5.0-liter Cammer engine producing 400 hp (300 kW), with the capability of running on E-85 ethanol. It includes a manual six-speed transmission. The 5.0-liter Cammer engine is an upgraded variant of the 4.6-liter modular engine currently powering the Mustang GT.

heads and cams may be different along with the tune. what are you trying to do or just wondering? The long block itself is the same as any other crown vic or grand marg. they just have a larger alternator and different oil cooling

Depends on alot of factors of the motor. At a show recently a police car dyno'd with the interceptor motor in it at 165rwhp!!!
The problems they had from what the dyno crew said is the injectors are dumping waaaay too much fuel into the engine. plus spark plugs I think they said where bad.

The interceptor motor is far different

examples Injectors I believe are different
Pistons are different
Some have heated gas before it gets to the motor for better burn
Heads on some are different

Where Im at its the standard crown vic motor 4.6L v8 down tuned for more torq cause lets face it police cars carry waaaaay too much shit.
As well they come with that heated gas thing which helps the burn in the chamber.
