Please Help! clunk sound when accelerating

Please read all- I have a 2002 Mustang GT with a manual tranny, and I have noticed that over the last month or so when I give a sudden strike of the accelerator that I hear a "clunk" noise coming from the passenger side. I just got 410's installed and like to accelerate quite often at low-rpms to feel them, and thats when i seem to hear the "clunk" noise. It happens once, and then goes away, and only happens when a large load is put on the engine like when I get on it in 1rst shift into 2nd (clunk) shift into 3rd (clunk) and so on. It does not do it when just cruising, only under hard acceleration. I stopped in my driveway with it running and popped the hood, and goosed it a few times. I would say that 3 outta the 5 times I did it, it made the noise. It seems to be coming from the passenger side rear part od the engine or underneith. Is this normal? Its not ridiculously loud, but notice-able with windows down or up. Keep in mind this car only has 22k miles on it, and sat in a garage for 3 years solid.

its because you are dumping the clutch and its snapping the driveline/tranny/rear end, dont worry about it.

Any aftermarket exhaust? If so check all of your bolts and hangers to make sure it's secure.

sounds to me kinda like back-lashing in the rear axel (not too much to worry about untill it starts getting bad.) mines doing it really loud everytime i back up or start off. so im going to rebuild the rear end now. haha

if it does it when your car is sitting still too then i would say motor mount or if you got after market h or x pipe maybe its hitting agaist floor of car but how you described where sound comes from then its your motor mount.jack engine up(make sure you put piece of wood between jack an oil pan)just until you see it lift alittle then grab engine and try to rock side to side it should only move a very little bit.hope that helps

Check to see if there's any play in the U-Joints.

Wouldn't be U-joints if it did it in neutral. My money is on the motor mounts.

I didn't really read his whole "sch peal". I saw "clunking" and motor mounts was already posted so I threw in U-Joints because usually clunking is either motor mounts or u-joints. Sorry about that
