quick blower ic setup question....(bov related)
just wondering if i have my ic set done correctly.....
at part throttle i feel like the valve maybe openeing and closing, which i think is normal.. when i rev the car and release the pressure, i get a fluttering noise...as my bov is venting back into the power pipe.... is this bov flutter or commpressor surge?.... just want to make sure i have my setup done correctly..(don't want to hurt the sc or the car) my bov (stock vortech) connects to my tb ic pipe, and then connects again to the power pipe...the mass and filter are in the fender... here is a pic and video of what it sounds like and looks like.. ![]()

Are you running the stock BPV? I know my stock BPV doesn't sound like that. I don't recall the exact number, but if you're pushing past a certain # of boost the stock one isn't going to bleed off that pressure like a larger one can. You'll have to upgrade to the Vortech mini race BPV.

yeah, the dsm bov is much larger than the stock vortech, they appear to work the same and the dsm valve has a stiffer spring than the vortech....i gotta get some new rubber piping next week, and i will install it...i'll post up when i do since nobody else wants to chime in..
oh yeah, what's IIRC mean?

IIRC=If I Remember Correctly...
yes that fluttering noise is the bpv blowing back into the intake tube. or at least that's the sound mine makes. but it's never a bad idea to upgrade bpv's.

so switching to a blow off valve from a bypass will be bo different?...i won't be venting it, so it will work just like the vortech bpv...it's much larger and has a stiffer spring so i think i will benefit from it...
so since they both work the same, i should have no problems correct?

Right. They both funtion the same. In this case they work as a bypass valve since your MAF is before the BPV. That air is metered, so you can't make it a BOV. If the MAF was after the BPV then it would funtion as a BOV and you can blow off to the atomoshpere.

yup if you're a draw thru system you can't blow it off to the atmosphere. you'd be wayyy too rich if you did that lol.

I've not seen the vortech BPV, but I'm assuming that it works the same as a Procharger if both are blow through systems. I'm not sure why you want a stronger spring. The throttle body controls how much boost your engine gets. Unless the throttle body is wide open the excess boost has to go somewhere and that's out the BPV. And they do make a lot of noise when you go WOT and then let off.
Mine made excess noise because it was loosing vacuum, not because of the spring. There wasn't enough vacuum to hold it wide open so the excess pressure had to sqeeze through a smaller opening. You can basically tell how open your BPV should be by looking at your vacuum/boost gage. The more vacuum the wider it is open. At idle it should be fully open. As vacuum goes down, the spring closes it. When the gage shows boost then not only the spring but the pressure is holding it closed.

well, i believe at part throttle driving , my stock vortech is not staying closed causing a few blips every now and then , my tuner says it's normal, but i think with a bigger stiffer bov, it should help the problem.....and release pressure much quicker
does that make sense or am i way off?...

I don't think that's correct. A centrifical supercharger builds boost with rpm but it doesn't matter how high the rpm or how much boost you're generating if you are at partial throttle your vacuum/boost gage will show vacuum. The butterfly valve in your throttle body has the boost from your supercharger blocked. It needs to go somewhere that's why the BPV is open. I've tested this by driving at 5000 rpm in third down the highway. You can hear the pressure roar out the BPV. If it didn't the pressure would be forced back into the supercharger damaging it. Ideally the BPV and the throttle body valve work together but in opposite directions.

A larger diameter BPV should work the same way. It's diaphram and spring should be balanced to operate correctly. You ought to call Vortech and ask.

There's a bigger volume of air now and I doubt the stock bypass can keep up. That's why you hear the flutter now.
