Ford's plans on bigger displacement??

Chevrolet has been using the LS1 and LS6 in the corvettes for a number of years. now the new models have an LS2 (6.0 liter 400 horsepower) and LS7 for the zo6 (7.0 Liter 505 horsepower). so what is ford doing still screwing around with the 4.6?! dont get me wrong its a great engine but there are a lot of torque hungry enthusiasts out there who want something more for their mustang. has anyone heard of ford putting a 5.4 or bigger in mustangs in the near future? us ford guys shouldn't have to go with f/i just to keep up with a chevy. my dads corvette rapes my mustang, its sad. a few years down the road when i need to rebuild/replace my engine, i would seriously consider something bigger, like if they brought back the 351.. it would be awesome if they offered a 351 4V crate engine or something like that. anyone have similar thoughts on this?

I agree, but then again I'm a Camaro fan anyway. Most of the guys on this site are die-hard Mustang people. They would rather pay $10000 in mods than give up thier Stang. LOL

hahah.. i used to be a huge camaro/trans am fan but even the 4th gen to me looks like it belongs on blocks in front of a trailor park... while the stang is slower it just appeals to me more... also much less of a penis car...

I am mustang guy through and through. I could really care less whether or not another car comes with more power and is faster than mine. I just want to work on my stang and have fun with it. Hell if someone wants to spend $20,000 on their car, then go right on. I will congratulate them on being faster than mine.

Ill never buy a GM again, my Cadillac seals the deal. Id rather buy a dodge, or even more convincing and import.

Early news in all of the magazines is that in a couple of years the standard engine for a GT will be another 5.0 that Ford is calling the Hurricane. It is also supposed to be putting down roughly 425hp. I guess that is something to look forward to.

I was born a Chevy guy and as I grew up I realized die-hard brand loyaltly isn't a very intelligent position. So I take each on it's merits. These cars are pretty fun to drive and look pretty good, but my 99 Chevy truck has a higher quality interior. But it's not so bad that I didn't buy it. My main complaint is how expensive it is to make these cars run. Which is ironic to me because when I got my drivers license 5.0's were stomping IROC's. But the pendulum has swung the other way and it will swing back again. Ford won't stay out of the game unless their current financial position makes it unprofitable to build and sell them. Like it or not, the profitable-to-Ford bread and butter Mustangs are V6 cars sold to young women. You'll know in about a year, when the new Z28 hits the streets if Ford is interested in getting back in the game.

The sad part is I the new Z will pay me no more attention than an Accord and rightfully so....

I'm still enjoying this car but the weak 4.6 + $,$$$'s to get a few ponies is a PITA. But my original goal has been met. My sons think it's cool and they love cruizing with dad.

Yeah, the look is right but not quite fluid enough like the Charger that's coming.

Either way, we're about to get abused.

they should make a 351 forged internal shortblock. one that will accept 2V heads and one that will accept 4V heads. that way you can just re-use your old heads and intake and everything else and have a 351 instead of a 281.. i dunno if that would work though cause it would probably need different cams and stuff plus larger combustion chamber heads.. it would be awesome to be able to have a cheap option like that instead of an entire crate engine.. i just think we're all screwed cause GM and Chrysler are kicking fords ass right now..

Your right ford is getting there asses kicked all ford needs is to go on a diet cars are 2 heavy the GT 500 with 500hp is barely faster than the 03-04 cobras just like that overweight GTO the 5.0 foxbodies are pretty light and so are the 96 thru 04 4.6's but even tho I have a 4.6 model if I had to a year of cobra I would choose the 93 cobra with that massive 351 in that little 5.0 the motor has more potential than the 4.6 that why freakin chevy always say we need a supercharger 2 compete which is true chevy fan or not those 350 lt1's and ls1's are bad ass, and also the mach 1 is barely out performed by a 03-04 cobra which has 85 extra horsepower because the mach 1 uses the cobra motor from the 95 mustangs and are not 4.6's!

what the blue fuck are you talking about? mach1's have a dohc 4.6 with 10:1 compression

it's the 4.6 sohc that gets stomped on by the ls1's, the 4.6 dohc is a fair competitor with 1.1 liters less of displacement

ford putting 5.4's in mustangs with 2v heads wont help much...what would help is if they went with a larger block with a larger bore and kept the same or similar stroke of the 4.6 motor for about 5.2-5.5 liters of displacement with 4v heads this would N/A eat the ls2 and ls7 without much trouble at all
