Help with stereo wiring.
So I've had my old deck for about 4 years, been in about 3 vehicles, so it was time for a switch, so i had the harness from before, i wired it all up
but my speakers dont work...now i heard something before about putting a resistor in the main power wire or something, did i do anything wrong? I mean im not exactly a noob at installing this stuff, its all connected right. So yeah, any ideas? |

if you have the mach system, you'll have to rewire your speakers.

from what I've been reading. The factory amps won't respond well to the aftermarket decks without rewiring the whole system. I'm not 100% sure but it's what I've read.

well i heard if you get the harness it should work fine, i heard something about putting a resistor in there, but the one i had when i was uninstalling the old deck, broke off, so i tried installing it without one and the speakers dont work, but i dont see why they shouldnt?

There is no resistor and you can buy a harness but that will adapt the MACH to your H/U but it is not going to sound the same as the factory. It will sound like ass. Whenever I deal with MACH systems at my job we get the customer to rewire the system b/c 90% of the time they come back and say that there system sounds like ass.

now that i remember I believe that there is a resistor that you do use to get rid of that popping sound but i think that you put it on the remote wire, theres also a certain size you use. Ill check up for you and get back to you tomorrow after i get off of work.

I also have the Mach 460 system in my car and I'm in the middle of putting in a Pioneer head unit. If i rewire the system and use the same stock speakers will it work fine?

yeh you cant run your new deck into the mach amps yo! you gota run new wires to the speakers or try and find an adaptor that you can run like that i think

Get the Metra wiring harness that uses factory amps. Although the Mach system is kinda shitty with aftermarket decks. Its just a lot of cheap stuff combined to make OK sound. You'd be better off installing new everything.

Where are the amps located? Are they in the doors by the speakers, or are they all in the trunk? And when I bought the car, the guy I bought it from said it had a powered subwoofer. Is that true? And if it is, where is it?

the amps are in the trunk mounted to the bottom of where the speakers are. you have to let your back seat down and climb in through there to even see them. there is a guard on the other side so you cant tamper with it or see it from outside the car. There should be two amps. and you can buy the harness for the mach systems at autozone. its called the ford premium sound harness. then all you do is match the colors and you are good to go. i have an aftermarket cd player in my car and it sounds great. granted. i did put a new sub in but even before that it surprised me how well the factory ones sounded. and no. the cars do not have powered subs in them. powered subs are anything that the sub, amp, and box are all one thing. the cars do have amps and they are a pain to get to and re wire. because they are nothing like a normal amp.
