Temp Gauge.

My temp gauge NEVER moves over the half way mark.

This weekend I drove out to Las Vegas, in 110 Degree heat, I sat in traffic coming home, A/C on full blast, and the A/C shut off (started blowing only hot air) but the Temp Gauge still sat at the Half way mark. The traffic let up and the A/C kicked back on and everything seemed fine.

Does anyone have any explanation for any of this? Do you think my Gauge is not working correctly?

I have no idea when the last time it was charged up, I bought the car last year, the A/c blows cold with no interruptions usually, and It hasn't done that since.

I knew the Oil pressure gauge was basically useless, but I thought the temp Gauge would at least be accurate! haha

Its crazy to me that I can sit in 110 degree heat in the blazing mid-day sun , at a stand still for a little more than 5 minutes and not have the temp gauge even move a needles width. maybe I will hook up a aftermarket gauge just to see if it reads any different.

I can say that the temp gauge does work....I once had a hole in my radiator and i leaked out all my coolant....Temp gauge went more that 3/4's the way up before i turned off the car.

i have an autometer temp gauge in my pilar pod, and it can change 30-40 degrees without the needle on the dash moving at all. so, as far as i am concerned the factory needle is completely useless...

I've seen my factory tempature gage move. When I had a 160 degree thermostat it would move up in town and back down on the highway. It stopped doing that after I installed a 180 degree thermostat. I also saw it move up toward the red when I blew an electric waterpump relay.

It's fine. Mine is the same way. If your A/C compressor blows up, you'll see your temp gauge shoot up. I promise : )

factory temp gauges are not accurate and typically only respond after a HUGE flucuation in temp. As stated previously it is more of an idiot light...digital feedback. Either you are OK or about to blow up

As for the A/C in traffic. I know there is a low pressure cut off switch for the compressor but since this was a single occurance this shouldn't be the case. Perhaps there is an overload circuit that was pegged due to the extreme temps that came down after you got some airflow over it.
