Antenna

Ok, so I tried to install a shorty antanna on my 02 GT, and it kinda kicked my ass. When I was screwin the antanna on, the threads broke off down inside the hole. I cant get to them to unscrew them, so I need to take off the entire antanna holder thing. Anyone know how to do that?

as soon as I figure out what an antanna is, I'll help you out. j/k.

Not sure, I wanted to remove the antenna on my stang too, it's hideous. I just unscrewed it, but I really wanted to remove the entire holder.

No screws I could see, it's mounted, maybe bolt-style? Either way, did anyone consider, it's hard-lined into the front panel, if you remove it...

Well, yeah. You can see my point.

lol thanks smartass. I looked under the hood and saw a few screws comming from the antEnna holder, but they were pointed downwards. Seemed like the top of the holder should come off and expose a few screws or somethin.

I think I may just go to a body shop and see how much it would be to shave it all off and repaint.

The classic Ford oval base antennas have been the same for years, snap off the plastic cap over the base and you'll see 3 screws that fasten the base to the fender.

This will help...

I lopped mine off at 16" and rounded/polished the cut end--however I've always felt it would look better, at any height, on the rear fender...

They make aftermarket antenna kits which mount to the rear glass or just above it on the exterior. They look mostly hidden. I suppose you could buy one and just hook it into your headunit.

Well to be honest, I just think it wasnt that great of an antenna. I bought it from Blueovalindustries.com, and when I was screwin it in, the threads broke off down inside. I went to a local dealer and had them order me a new base, so hopefully I'll be able to listen to the radio again in about a week.

Hanful of selections:

http://www.antennaworld.com/2004/dep...amfm_sub.shtml

I had found a glass one but I cant find the link, doesn't matter, i got one and the mount sucks for it. (One of the ones that "transparently" mounts to back window)

Why not just bury the antenna inside a body piece... like the front fender? should still work right?

It would work, however the sensitivity would be greatly diminished by being inside of the steel fender. You do raise and interesting notion though.

Both the hood and rear deck (at least on my '03) are made of composite materials that may or may not be effective RF shields--the ground strap on the hood may be only for static discharge.

Depending on the exact nature of the composite it might not block RF, however, a remaining issue would be FM reception. Nearly all, if not all, commercial FM broadcasters transmit vertically polarised signals--best received by vertically oriented aerials. This is why the strip antennas some makers put in windshields several years ago fell out of fashion, they sucked for FM...

Ok, I went to a local dealership and ordered a new antenna base, but it came with a non-screw type of antenna thing. I dont know exactly how to describe it, but they told me that I need to get an antenna that does not screw in. Has anyone heard of these?
