Ok.....Car decision help?

Ok, well, soon to be driver here. I'm not stupid, I'm not a bad driver, and I really don't care to race, I just love tinkering with things, and thats transferred over to my love of cars. I just love the thought of tuning cars, just to squeeze more power out of it, and know that I accomplished it.....its a natural high for me. But heres my problem. I have a good chance of getting an '01 yellow SVT convertible cobra (my car will be under my mothers insurance, not mine) . But I also have a chance at maybe getting a Lancer Evolution. Now, I know this is not the car aimed at for this forum, but from a respected look, whats your opinion on it? I really like the Evo for its AWD, and I love the look to them; having 300-350hp (will be my first goal to achieve on my first car that I tune) with AWD is ALOT better than a car with same hp thats RWD, because theres so much more traction and control there. But also, spinning tires on a cobra is a beautiful idea.....I love american muscle. So, whats your opinions on this? I really, really like both cars, and just can't decide, and I would like a, MATURE, opinion on this subject.

both cars are quick
yes the evo has awd and it is about right in line with the cobra tq numbers.
305 vs the evos 300

but the evo lacks torque
the cobra doesnt.

the evo does have a 6 spd which is a plus because the 01 cobra only has a 5 spd.

all in all both cars are nice.

but i would have to say that the 4v cobra motor responds a hell of a lot better to mods than a turbo 4.

Thanks for the info :wink .

Yeah, I pretty much assumed the cobra was alot more torquey than the evo. But still, I love 'em both, so if I actually do end up getting one of the two (hey, two out of two wouldn't be bad lol), I'll love it no matter what. But I know my biggest problem will be insurance with the cobra. It should be if nto alot, atleast slightly cheaper on the evo. Anymore info is appreciated though! I really want the cobra, just because theres like no used Evos for sale around my area AT all (I haven't seen one ever except the other day, and it was show floor, with like 28 miles on it.....brand new 06 model) . So Idk....

Re: Ok.....Car decision help?

Not only will the evo not respond as well to mods, they will cost more. Fun costs money, smaller price=more mods.

Yes, but I KNOW insurance for a four door v6 will be ALOT cheaper than :

V8
Cobra svt badging
convertible

Insurance will KILL on the stang ...... I want them both so badly, so if I get one of 'em, I really don't care which, I'll be obssessed with it anyways.

But they do have some FULL turbo kits for it, where I get everything for 5k. I would like to get a turbo AND supercharger kit for it. I think its called sequential, where the turbo kicks in right after the supercharger hits its peak.

I also watched the video of a stang with a supercharger, and holy shit it sounded so awesome.......

$110
for the cobra

$97.92
for the evo.

i just pulled some quick car quotes from esurance.

mind you these are for a 23 year old
and in 91239 (san diego)
so it may be cheaper for you depending on where you reside

these are liability quotes not comp and collision.

i put everything at the least amount of coverage. fwi./

so yes.. the cobra's insurance really isn't mush more expensive

on ave only $150.00 more a year

Cobra. The Evo is a nice ride, to be sure, but the Mustang looks fierce, sounds fierce, and runs fierce. Nothing sounds like a screaming V-8 slamming through the gears. Maybe I'm just old, but I just love the old school, RWD, slam-you-in-the-seat torque, and power slide my ass around the corners type of fun.

Yes, this is true. But I'm afraid its looking worse for the cobra .....insurance is a bitch.........

So, maybe a GT ............but then I have to put some dead presidents up for some stronger internals....any idea how much that'll run me?

Hey I'm only 23 and I love muscle cars mainly the older ones over the new age so your not old or maybe I was born with an old soul my dad had 2 road runners when I was younger than he sold them! My dream car is a 1969 boss 429 or a 67 camaro!
