is it better if the battery is where it is now, or in the center of the trunk.. for canyon driving?

The trunk is better for weight distribution. And you generally want it to be on the passenger side to help even out the weight distrobution for you being in the driver seat.

My car has a drag set-up but it's much the same. Unless you got to a track that techs you won't need the cut-off switch. Here's some pics........

I've been meaning to do this but haven't gotten around to it so maybe you can do it and tell me what you think:
If you put the battery in the trunk, it'll give you a little more rear wheel traction as long as you're going straight this is a good thing but if you're going to be canyon carving then it might work better if you place the battery on the passenger side under the rear seat. This way the weight is in between the axles which will help give you better weight distribution along with being able to take advantage of the polar moment of inertia. Another plus, although small, will be that you'll have to run less wire which means a little less weight in the car. John

Not quite. While your head is in the right place, you are off a bit. The issue is that you want the best center of gravity. You got that part right, the problem is, you don't get that right by putting stuff closer to it. You try to cancel out weight that you can't control. You want to use your battery like balast. The goal of balast is the place it as far out as possible, so you get the most leverage on the center of gravity as possible, while having the smallest amount of weight added. Ideally, the best place for your battery would be about 2 feet to the side and 4 feet back from the passenger tail light. Completely out of the car. That would end up canceling about 50-60 pounds off the front of the car. The problem of course, thats impossible. So, when in your car, the ideal center of gravity is in the absolute middle of the car front to back and side to side. And at the center of the axles height wise. This will lead to totally flat movement and weight transfer. This is for the twisties obviously. To do that, you place the battery opposite the driver to event he weight side to side. Then you place it as far back as you can, to help balance out the weight of engine. Its like a see-saw. You don't balance the fat kid on the end by standing in the middle, you sit as far back as you can so you don't have to work as hard to lift his fat ass. ideally you'd put him in the middle, but you can't. Cause he is bolted to the frame there, so you do what you can.
